Ski Wakes GS20 vs GS22 (vs 2012 Sport Nautique 200)

I have a 2012 Sport Nautique 200. I'm thinking about possibly upgrading to something that will be more suited for intermediate to advanced wake boarding and surfing. However, I love the ski wake on my current boat.

First, anyone out there have any experiencing skiing behind these boats (or boats similar)? If so, how does the ski wake differ?

Second, I'm possibly going to go a bit bigger (22 vs 20), is there really much difference between the GS20 and GS22 in terms of ski wake?

we are good recreational skiers. need a V drive for the family so we know we will lose some ski performance when we moved away from a mid engine. we had a 2017 GS20 it skied great and was an amazing boat. Last August dealer let is “try out” the GS22. We now own that GS22. Both ski really well for a V drive boat. We really like the extra room and seat backs on the 22. The 22 skied just as good. Could not really tell the difference. My wife skis at 31 mph as we find the wake starts to really flatten out around 30 mph. I like to ski at 34 or faster. We both use a rope with 15’ off and find this a good spot for wake crossing.

Thank you MT Jack, that is exactly the kind of info I was hoping for. Anything I should know about the GS22? Is there an option you got but don't need or one you wish you'd have gotten? What about any issues?

I am adding a ladder from aqua performance on the swim step and the wakemakers ballast kit along with an oj prop. That’s all aftermarket stuff I am adding to a three year old boat. With the new boat I would say get the bow filler cushion, bimini with the surf pockets and phender pros if you do a lot of docking. Strapless board racks I wish I had I am going to get the Roswell ones next year.

I am told the wakes are similar on 22 and 20 but have not been pulled behind a 20. Admittedly the GS series was never designed to 3 event ski boat, and it is no replacement for a direct drive ski boat, if you intend to run buoys. For free skiing, it is great for a v-drive.

Before the GS boats we had a 2011 wakesetter VTX with the diamond cut ski hull. So likely very similar to your 200 for skiing. We gave up a little bit of ski performance but gained in space and storage. We really like rear facing back seat options on the 22. We only did 2 tower speakers on the 22 as the 20 had 4 and you always banged your head on the middle 2. Bow filler cushion is a great option, we also have the pro ballast option.
