2021 G or P23 vs prior gen hull G23 - wakeboard wake size and shape review

Unless I have missed it, all of the discussion on the new G or P23 hull / wake shape and size has been on the surf wave. No offense to the surfers out there (most of the boat owners these days) but has anyone got any feedback on the wakeboard wake? The previous generation(s) with some extra weight in the rear lockers was great (or 3000 extra was awesome), but I can see them catering to the surf crowd with the new hull, potentially at the expense of the wakeboard wake. Any reviews of the wakeboard wake (P23 purely stock is what I am looking at, which would be equiv of G23+1500 lbs since same hull) vs the previous gen with 1-2k lbs extra weight? Have heard it may not be quite as good of a shape for wakeboarding...

I plan to demo the new one myself soon but just seeing if any solid feedback before I do.

    Thanks in advance.

If you missed it, I also did too. Would love to hear the same feedback on the wakeboard wake. No offense to the surfers, we hardly do it so it doesn’t matter much to me. Local dealer said it was massive but I still need to schedule a demo. I’m hoping to do this in the next couple weeks, but my only reference point is my current 18’ Supra which I don’t think will help much.
I’m very curious as to what speeds and line lengths people are riding on it as well as stock vs extra. I’m guessing we are probably a little early to hear how some of the team riders are setting these things up.

We had the chance to demo a 21 G23 last week. I'm not good enough on the wakeboard to notice a difference but my son did take a long set. We normally run with an extra 500 lbs of lead wake in the boat. To keep the wave balanced we have normally have an extra 300 lbs on the port side compared to starboard. The 21 G23 was only had the stock ballast. One of the first things I noticed is that the boat is more balanced at wakeboard speed (22.4 mph). We had a driver and I had to actually sit in the middle in the of the rear seat to balance to wake. With stock ballast the wake looks smaller from the boat. However, my son said the wake was very comparable with just a bit more pop off the top. I would have to say they were very similar since he went out and immediately was able to land his standard 3's and inverts easily and always landing in the transition. He really didn't have to make any adjustments to riding our current G23 with full ballast plus the extra 500 lbs. We didn't play around with any of the settings or try other speeds.

Like most of the comments, the biggest change is with the surf wave. Compared to my 18 G23 the surf wave was a game changer. In my opinion with my current G23 it is a step behind some of the competition such as the Centurion Ri237 that my friend has. Riding behind the 21 G23 was a definitely on par with anything else I had been behind.

Overall I would say they dramatically improved the surf wave without any negative influence on the wakeboard wake.

I tried to get some side shots where you could see the wake. So far my only complaint is how hard it is to get clean wake under 19mph for the kids. Over 19 it cleans up. I mention this because my little guy doesn’t like riding much over 18

Video is 22.6 with stock ballast plus 200lbs of lead that we use to move around for passenger offset.

thanks for that. I would guess that implies that the P23 (weighing roughly 1500 lbs extra than the 2021 G23) will be pretty comparable or better to most folks setups in the old G hull that ran roughly 1000+ lbs over stock.

Open to hear any other reviews.

MG94 - thanks for the video. Hard to tell too much but good info on the kids. Mine are just starting to ride the G and my 2014 has trouble with a clean wake under 19 as well so not much lost there. They are riding my prostar, a local GS and now more cable. They'll just have to step up i guess but I feel bad the wake is huge for little kids.

My 12 year old loves the big wake after he started hitting the kickers at the park. Downside is we have it slammed so far on one side to clean it up the other side is hard to cross over. Hes still working on one side at a time so it works. Its not bad with empty ballast at 19. Full ballast cleans up around 20.5

I don't wakeboard any more but I use to. The wakeboard wake on the Paragon is scary big and much cleaner and symmetrical. It is MUCH bigger and cleaner than my G23 with 800lbs of lead. I want to see someone take a full cut at this wave. It will launch you!

I’ll see if I can get some better angles tomorrow. We are taking the GoPro, drone and camera. Let’s hope the water cooperates

Our 2021 G23 arrived last week. Prior we had the original 2013 G23 hull and then the 2016 G23 upgraded hull. Our passion is wakeboarding and the boats have been amazing everyone loves the G wakeboard wake on our crew. Our first weekend however was spent surfing as we all decided that we would play on this new surf wave and the water conditions were unfortunately a little choppy to get the best of the wakeboarding. I will say that the surf wave is another level. Slightly heavier adult riders can play on shorter boards and the wave just keeps pushing. There is no doubt that as hardcore wakeboarders we will be surfing a little more now because this wake is so much more fun to play around on and learn new tricks without losing the wave/push. I quickly rode the wakeboard wake and first impressions are it is improved on the previous hull. It seems to give more boot off the top and it is huge I had it at 50% because we had about 7 adults in the boat and it was bigger than my G23 2016 fully loaded 100% so the wakeboard wake on the 2021 is bigger it seems . Myself and two other riders on the crew typically ride for wakeboarding 100% full ballast plus with approx. 3-5 adults in the boat on the 2016 G23 ( kids typically ride zero ballast and some more experienced younger riders go to around 30% ballast ) All the crew will be riding wakeboard this weekend and I will update on exactly what our opinion is on the wakeboard wake for both experienced riders and our younger kids riding zero ballast. I have a feeling we are going to love this wakeboard wake even more. The boat experience and the driving is great on the 2021. Ps once again my main concern was that the WAKEBOARD wake was not going to be compromised because of the focus on creating the best surf wave. As before I only had a very quick ride but it seems better , some wakeboarders claim the original G23 hull prior to the 2016 was slightly better and maybe the 2021 G23 is very similar to the original G wakeboard wake. One other note the wakeboard wake remains super clean. The top is super clean and as I said really boots you up. After this weekend after properly spending time on the wakeboard I will know for sure!!

Good info. Can you also comment with line length and speed with your opinions on the wakeboard wake? Thanks.

Well they did it!! In our opinion the new hull creates an even better wakeboard wake all three riders in our crew had the same honest opinion that the wake is improved. It seems to boot you up even more. It is super clean. Do not get me wrong I cannot fault the old hull. Any decent wakeboarder who is considering upgrading who is wondering if they compromised the wakeboard wake to create a better surf wave needs not to worry. You will love this wake. So as a new G23 2021 owner I am very happy. The boat is awesome. I will ride this afternoon with our kids and see how the wake is at slower speeds.

Thanks for the info. What line length, speed, and ballast were you running? Any pics? How does the overall shape conpare to the previous gen (same just larger, steeper, etc)?
