It was a blustery 65-degrees in Oklahoma today. But those who braved the cold were treated to a Demo behind a beautiful Admiral Blue Metal Flake 2021 G23 and some wakesurfing shenanigans by none other than John Akerman himself piloted by local wakeboard hero Taylor Kress. I currently own a 2015 Axis A24 (first boat) and I'm in the market for an upgrade. My 15yr old son told me it's foolish of me to "waste money" on a new boat because "the Axis is great"... Well after today he's saying "We HAVE TO get a G23" I am sure nobody will be surprised, but our take was the G23 wave was better in every way... taller, steeper, longer, firmer, more push, bigger sweet-spot. I must say, the demo was fantastic and we may indeed be pulling the trigger if we can swing a great deal on a custom order.
Afterwards, we had a demo on a 2020 Mastercraft X-Star. It was a great boat as well. The fit and finish, quality, etc is fantastic. Also, being an engine guy, I love Ilmore. Best powerplant for sure. The ballasts fill super fast and the boat handles and drives smooth and solid (I did not get to drive the G23). However, the wave was not as good as the G23. In a very subjective 1-10 rating, I'd give the A24 a 6, the X-Star an 8, and the G23 a 10. To be fair, we did have 9 people in the G23 and only 3 in the X-Star. I have no idea how big of a difference this made, but I'm sure it helped the G23.
