Does anyone ski anymore? Seems everyone is going for big wakes..

There is no such animal as a model 196 prior to 2002. You’ll be thrilled with any SN made after 1997. I owned a 1997 SN with GT 40 and now own a 2004 SN 196 LE with a Excalibur 330 hp. Both skied excellent with low wakes at all speeds and line lengths. As for pricing it is definitely up, primarily due to COVID. Boats are being sold as soon as they hit the market. Take a look at ski-it-again.com.

+1 for 1997 or later. That's when the TSC hulls arrived. My 97 Ski was fabulous.

I wouldn't necessarily shy away...but just be aware. I'd probably ski one before committing so you can form your own opinion. "Common knowledge" seems to be that there was a notable improvement with the TSC1 hulls. You can probably search ballofspray.com - hardcore skier site - for some good information on the specifics.
If you do decide to go pre 97, I would make sure to get an all fiberglass boat. From recollection it was ~ 1994 that Nautique ended the wood stringers and went to all fiberglass construction. I'm sure someone here will add the correct exact year.
Edit: did a quick search, this is a helpful link

Edit 2: another reason for later model boat is the EFI / GT-40 engine. After owning a boat with a carb, once you have an EFI boat, you don't want to back.Last edited by SilentSeven; 09-24-2020, 02:41 PM.2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)

I just spent 4 months watching the ski tug market hourly. I was on SIA, BOS, here, Bu site, FB marketplace and every CL page west of Colorado. Almost every ski boat I looked at was 3k to 5k over NADA value and selling for it. Anything close or under NADA sold in 1 to 2 days. The ‘08 196 I am buying was listed for 2 hours before I reached out and he already had 10 calls

Yep, the ski boat market is fine (or even better than normal). I am ALWAYS on the lookout for a 1998 or 1999 Ski Nautique or SNOB that is priced low, and when I find one, I snap it up. I typically fix them up, use them for a year or two, and then sell them again. For me, 1998 and 1999 are my favorites.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.
