    OJ XMP prop

Anyone use the OJ XMP 4 blade prop on their 196? I hear the wake and pull are softer.

We use a Michigan-Federal-Ambush4 13x16R 4blade very silent on noise.
Put back the 3 blade 14x16, very nosiy at begin of holeshot lets say 1/4mile.
Put on 3 blade 13x13 due to our CNG/LPG fuel the 13x13 gives the rpms back on normal. This 3 blade is noisy over the whole rpm range.
    Noisy sound like engine noise.
With the 4 blade noise goes down a lot.
Now ordered a 13x12,5 ACME 4 blade comes in one monday, will inform you, hope noise is low and hope there is an increase on holeshot, as we load the boat for a good wake when boarding.
We just put 500lbs of lead as far back possible to the rear.

It's on a different boat, but I ran a comparison of the Acme 13x12 3 blad with a 13x12 XMP and recall the pull being softer with the XMP. The wake difference was negligable, but may have been slightly less turbulent with the XMP. My father in law is running a four blade XMP and the pull is softer than his hand finished four blade OJ for sure. I haven't compared it to the Acme.

For what it's worth (even though you're interested in the 4 blade), I have some wake pictures comparing the 3 blades side by side at various speeds (not that my wake behind my 13 year old boat is going to compare to a new 196).

As luck would have it, I have a new host for the prop comparison. No downloading required. Hope it helps.

I recently tried an XMP 13x12, it was actually a 12.75x12 on a Bu RLXi. I found the XMP to be a little soft for shortline. The prop would end up giving a little too much to me while skiing 35 and 38@34mph. We ended up having to put in an extra 60rpm to ge the times good. This meant that as I was starting for the course I was going about 35.7mph and then by the time I was finishing on 1 ball I was slowing the boat down by almot 2 mph and this isn't good. SGY liked the prop at 28 -34mph 15 off and noticed a wake difference. I start at 28 off and I didnt' notice any difference. I can see where this prop would be popular at lower elevations ( we ski at ~5000ft) or at longer lines, based on SGY's assessment.

That's the reason I posted here. I was impressed enough with the OJ behind the Bu that I'd consider trying one on my 196. Still curious if anyone here has tried one on a late model 196 with the GM 5.7 motor.
