This was our first summer owning a boat. My son is 8 and picked up wakeboarding and surfing really quickly. I used to wakeboard about 15 years ago and finally was in position to get a boat.

Our season is over, and i was wondering if anyone has any experience with traveling to a wakeboard school in florida or elsewhere to make some progress in the offseason.

I would love to get better myself and love for my son to learn the right way to do things from the beginning. I think he would progress a lot faster.

His dream would be to go to a class with Shaun Murray, but i am open to any quality instruction worth traveling across country for. O guess California would be easier if there are any options there!

If Shaun is his dream I would go ahead and come to FL, get a lesson or two from Shaun (great guy), tour the Correct Craft facility, and do Disney World and Kennedy Space Center. Trip to remember and 8 is a great age for it.

I have ridden with Murray many times over the years. There is nobody better! He'll get your son on the right track for sure.

I met Murray at a boat show, while I’ve not ridden with him I can imagine it would be a lot of fun and would like to do that someday.

I spent the last several seasons beating myself up and not making much progress on my own and wondered about schools myself. Long story short, end of the 2019 season I went to O’Town Watersports to train with Glen Fletcher for a few days and had a great experience. I learned quite a lot during my visit and I can honestly say that trip set the tone for 2020 and it was my best season of progression I’ve had in a long time. I probably had lucky timing, but while I was there I had the opportunity to see him coach several students chasing world championships as well as a few pros. I had planned on 2 trips this year however we were expecting and didn’t want to travel with everything going on. I am planning a couple trips for the 2021 season. I’d give them a look if you are considering a trip. I’m happy to discuss it further if you’d like.

West coast camps is in CA and comes highly recommended from others in CA (no personal experience there).

Regardless, yes find top notch instruction and it will help tremendously for anyone willing.

OWC is a cool place. My 7 year old went there this past year for wakeboard camp that lasted all day and one of the days Shaun came through and greeted the kids and did a demo on the cable to show them "how its done"

We go to Florida every year for lesson and Freedom Wake Park has been the best for me. Tarah and Cobe are awesome and they teach a lot of kids as well. Going with Shaun is an experience for sure. Everyone is different so maybe try a couple schools and see who you like the best.
