Buying a Paragon is so difficult??

I asked them this morning to please explain to me why we have to do a down-payment and commitment to purchase prior to boat/water test. Stating me and the wife are having a hard time with it.

They immediately called me and told me that is not necessary. No problem, we can do boat test and then come back for down-payment and purchase paperwork. There will be no commitment to buy and I can change my mind at anytime.

I'm glad cause it was becoming a make or break situation.

Well at least that's better, sorry to hear about that being how they operate though. Here in DFW I went to two dealers (Malibu and Nautique) and told them we were looking at the G23 and the M220 and immediately were given demos on the G23 and a M240 as they didn't have a M220 at the time. Both dealers here are hands down awesome so far.

Did some talking and figured out the g23 was the preference and then figured out the Paragon was within reach as well and told the dealer we want to order a P23. He said, "You guys want to come demo one? I'm always down to take people surfing." and I was kinda shocked, didn't think they had one to demo... it's the Owners P23 and we got to go out and demo that one. It's an awesome boat, and I'm sure we won't have any regrets on it, nor will you. The wave was like the G23 just bigger and with more push, but not as big or adjustable as the M240.

Honestly I liked the M240 wave the best, it was IMO the best I've ever ridden! But when it comes down to styling, colors, features, interior, ride, handling, performance, and all around feel of luxury we felt the P23 was the boat for us.

They get rebates for demo hours so the owner probably gets a new boat every year. The more he takes people out, the less out of pocket he is.

What was your out the door cost on that boat new?

I asked the dealer what it calls for as a trade and they told me its currently 274k....

I'm biased, but Phil and his team are hard to beat. I ordered mine a year ago this coming Monday. (#076) We demo'd on a chilly, drizzly, Saturday afternoon. All they do is Nautique, and this is all they know - which I like. We have other dealers in our state (who I won't identify by name) that sell Masterctafts along side Nautique. I really can't understand why Nautique allows this, but hey, that's my opinion.

i debated between a 230 and the GS22. I had a GS20 that I was selling (they actually sold it for me).
Not only did we demo the 230, I actually waterskied behind it.

This dealership goes above and beyond. They are fantastic IMO

Well I didnt make it up.....AND in this conversation we where talking about the G23 DEMO boat I didnt even know they had the Paragon yet. Through this entire process I have never been asked to demo a boat. Maybe your experience was different but this dealership did not treat me all that great. Only reason im buying from them is they would be my warranty shop for Nautique or trust me I would have been long gone....

Not till I reached out yesterday did this change.

Heading back to dealership now. Gonna make up our mind here pretty quick. Any help would be great

Just buy the darn boat and tweak wake later before you drive yourself crazy prior to purchase. It a darn nice boat and you can’t go wrong. Buy now an tweak with fellow PN members early spring 2021 on the Fingggg wave

Agree with GMLIII. I know its a ton of money but it sounds like you have the means and you are buying what is widely considered the absolute best wake/surf boat money can buy. You'll be able to tweak the wake as needed with lead, line length, speed, ballast etc. If the P23 doesnt meet your needs im not sure anything will. Youll love it!

It is a bit of a toss up...Paragon creates the biggest, baddest wakes and waves in the game...but at the end of the day is an 8000lb beast and you can only tame it so much. That said, I was towing a 7 year old girl a couple days ago at around 18 and it was totally rideable. You were on the river so there was likely some current (may have been going even slower than indicated) and don't think they played with the wake shape. If you put the wake shape around 3 or 2 and have the people more evenly distributed front to back (or even better, more in front) it really helps make it cleaner at slower speeds. Another option...guessing if someone wants to ride at 17 they're not jumping wake to wake...is to have more weight on the rider's side they do most carving on. That wake will be cleaner and as they progress to carving all the way back and forth you can shift the weight and/or start slowly increasing speed.

1..I have 24 hours to figure out what I want to do. As of right now we walked on the boat, for a number of reasons, the deal breaker being the novice speed but if you can give me an idea on a few other things it would greatly help me make my decision.....

2..Top Speed with no ballast was 35mph is that correct? I thought it was in the low 40's

3..We had an engine light come on and a warning he cleared before i could see that said something about engine over RPMs....Have you ever seen or heard of this issue?

4..The subwoofers, they where not very loud at all and I even had to put my ear next to the wakesubs with volume at halfway and all 4 subs set to +12? Normal?

5..The steering assist, several times at speeds below 4mph it wouldnt engage while we where in gear, and no matter how much the wheel was turned. But the steering indicator bars where not bright so it seemed the electronics was cutting it out, then it would randomly work. and I tried it on both low and high.....Works fine if you do it manually just not with steering wheel.....Any insight on what that might be about?

6..The rear transom walk threw. I slowed like I would on my GS20 and holy cow, buckets of water flew in the back of the boat soaking everything. I didnt just let of the gas but clearly I slowed way to fast. Have you gotten used to this and now it never happens? Cause it soaked the rear lockers, seats, and anybody sitting by walk through which was my son....

7..Nothing you can advise me on about this but I wasnt to thrilled to find out it takes as long to fill ballasts as my GS20....Geez, for that money couldnt they give you a much bigger pump...

And yeah, these guys didnt help by taking us to the dirty Sacramento river where its super shallow, most of it was 5' to 15' and 58* water so we couldnt get behind it for a tow...Terrible place to go Honestly. I could see when we got to some deeper areas, while short lived, the wake would change shape....Surf Wave is pretty amazing....

As to your response on novice setting. I was not aware you can change the wake shape on novice, we didnt even try, and no one mentioned it to us...

Do you still have your GS? I only ask because if you do, this takes any pressure off you to make a rushed 24 hr decision. At the end of the day, there will be more Paragons for sale, and your GS likely won't lose that much value relatively.

I also wandered over to the website of what I think is the dealer you were looking at... what about incrementally stepping up to the GS24 they have for sale? ZR7 motor (which I didn't even know you could get in a GS) and a little more size, but a still predictable flat wake for the younger crew - you might not be pumped about white, I have no idea, but it is $100k cheaper. Then you can see what the market for the P23s look like in the future and make a decision that is more timely while still riding a really sweet boat.

Just a thought.
