seriously considering a 2019 g23, torn between one with a 550 supercharged vs 450. the 450 is the go to it seems like. is the 550 supercharged as reliable, is it really that much more to maintain / work on? is there a longevity benefit with one over the other. coming from a 210 with a 343.

Only negative about the 550 that I am aware of is the absolute requirement of premium gas.
I had a 550 in 2013, and loved it.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. Kodiak....how much more is the top speed in the G21 with the 550 over my old G21 with the 409? I would see 39-40 max...with light load/fuel. Just wonder if the 550 gives you 5 more mph or somewhere in that range. Thanks.

Its been a while but the only time I did WOT with no extra weight was when I did the break in. I think I got to 45 MPH but that was at 2700 feet. Mine is a 2014 with the older trans ratio not the 2 to 1. I think they switched the trans in 2016 to the 2 to 1 for the XR7.

For sure its a rocket at 2700 feet, that's the lowest elevation I go to. AT 6000 feet with full ballast and 12 people in it you need all of the 550 for wake boarding. @ Sea level could possibly get a different prop and gain a mph or 2. I'm getting the ZZ8 with the my new G23 which hopefully shows up in June.

As kodiak hinted at, I think it depends also on what activity you do. Wakeboarding with extra ballast requires far more HP than surfing with extra ballast. Getting from 13-19 MPH is a tall mountain to climb.
GEEZER needs to tell us his elevation to further advise. My 450 G23 was great up to 3600 feet. Wakeboarding at 3600 with full ballast was a little slow getting up to speed, but could always do it.

2015 G23 with the 550. One O2 sensor had to be replaced year #1. That's it so for me so I love the reliability.
Fuel consumption for me runs 8-10GPH when surfing loaded with a group of five people. Personally I think that is very reasonable. Elevation is roughly 685'.2015 G23 550
