    Rope Storage Hack

I really liked the idea of the hanging storage in the lockers for ropes, but was worried that ropes would fall off the Nautique rope hangers, so here is what I came up with. Tarp bungees and cable clamps. I have $12 dollars and 15 minutes into this project. I put three on each panel.

Love these ideas! Adding to my list for when I pull her out of hibernation.

I added 2 more of these hooks to both stern locker walls. I have a total of 4 hooks or each locker walls. Link below

Where did you get the hardware that you attached to the lid? Do you know what they're called?

            Thanks!

I got it all from Lowes. Stainless steel loops, screws, clips and split rings. The straps came with the ropes.

This is a great idea especially on f smaller boat like the Sport 200. I'll be doing this when I get the boat back. I think I'm going to try a black zip tie to secure the bungee cord instead or the U bolts.

Bungees ordered! I currently have all my ropes stored in the passenger side locker under the tower. Can't wait to get my storage locker back.

bturner, as another Sport 200 owner, do you have any other good storage hack tricks? Storage is at such a premium on these boats.

Wish I did. I used to be a "bring it all" boater when it came to toys and tools. Carried 3 surfboards and 2 tool boxes with spare parts, mostly because I'm on Lake Erie sometimes (hard to get out and walk or swim to shore out there). I basically took the minimalist approach along with updating old gear.
                        • My 2 tool boxes are now 1 small/medium sized soft sided tool bag.
                        • Can't do dual batteries on the Sport 200 so I carry a Lithium jump box.
                        • The 2 medium Danforth anchors were replaced with a small Fortress Danforth and a folding box anchor.
                        • Got ride of the binoculars and started caring a marine rated compact scope.
                        • The home made Tupperware box First Aid kit is now a compact soft sided kit.
                        • Used to carry a ton of life jackets. Now I inventory who's coming, select by size then add 2 more larges.
                        • Started using the area behind the rear ballast tanks for my bumper storage.
                        • Replaced the large round bumpers with Mission Delta foam bumpers (this actually freed up boat storage compartments under the front seats. They also work a lot better).
                        • Only carry 2 slalom ropes, 2 surf ropes and 1 wakeboard rope. That's down probably 3 ropes and since I rarely wakeboard anymore that could probably go as well.
                        • Cut my anchor line down from 50' to 25' but added 6' of stainless chain to increase the effective holding strength at shorter line length (another Lake Erie thing).
                        • Carry 2 - 15' and 2 - 20' dock lines and only carry 4 now. I use one of the 20s for my box anchor if needed for a rear anchor at the sand bar.
                        • Replaced the old hard sided cooler with a Mission Delta soft backpack (what can I say Mission had a clearance sale for Black Friday. The cooler and bumpers were 50% off). Probably takes about half the space in the boat and carries about 16 cans of..... beverages, yeah that's the word I was looking for.
                        • Plumbed in the piggyback rear ballast so now I don't need to carry a tsunami pump with hose.
So with all the changes I did last fall I now have the 2 storage spaces under the bow seats open and with your idea I hope to have my storage space under that middle seat open which means I can hopefully move the tools out of the space behind the passenger seat. All that said adding all the gear for 5 people fills everything up quickly especially when the ladies decide to all bring day bags, purses and well.... all the other stuff they bring. I mean I bring me, a t-shirt and towel. Oh and the cooler as well so there is that.

At the end of the day it is a much smaller boat than my previous 07 MasterCraft X2. I will say that when you move from a boat you had a long time, clean it out and have to cut down the items you carried it is quite surprising the junk you carried that you never used. I still have a pile in the garage that I have to either figure a way to use it or toss it.

Exactly which type of screw will hold best to the material that is underneath? What length did you use? Obviously, one would not want to use a screw too long and have it come through the vinyl when you step on it.

3/4" screws. The MDF in the storage lid is 1/2" thick. The other 1/4" is taken up by the stainless steel loop fitting.
