What years were the big changes made to the G23? I'm a slalom skier and not as familiar with the wake/surf boats. My family is looking to buy a used one in the $125K range to be used mainly at Lake Powell. For a 23' wake/surf boat is the G23 the best Nautique to look at or is there something else?

G23 is considered the best.
Major changes:
2014 - Introduction of the 2:1 v-drive gear ratio. Prior to this the Excalibur/409/450 engines were not strong enough to plane the boat very quickly under heavy load.
2016 - Hull modification to reduce spray while at surf speed
2021 - Totally new hull designI own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

Hi Scott.
If you're shopping, I'm really happy with the 550 HP motor in my G23 at Powell, but it's thirsty...so access to lots of gas is always nice. It's not a great "tour the lake" boat. I couldn't be happier using it as a tug boat for surf and wakeboarding...but if you want to go cruising there are probably better options. Don't get me wrong...I'm sold on my G23...but it's first and foremost a tug boat. Just my opinion, but I think the G really hit its stride 2016 on up. Mike B.

It looks like my family has narrowed it down to this 2016 M235 or this 2016 Super Air Nautique G-23. I know this is a Nautique forum but which one of these two is best? Any issues to watch out for with this G-23?

While I can't say for those two boats specifically, last fall we demo'd a G23, a M240, and a P23 in that order. The G23 was awesome, and really had an excellent fit and finish to it and the interior just "felt" awesome. The 2021 M240 had a better wave out of the box hands down than the stock 2021 G23, but the boat just didn't have the feel to it. It's hard to describe, but it's like the difference of getting in a Lexus, then going and sitting in a Toyota (or pick your brands). Nothing wrong with the Malibu, it just didn't have the feel to it. I also hated how you had to look over the windshield to see where you are going in the M240. Then we tested the P23 and it was a whole new level for both the luxury feel as well as the wave out of the box was better than either of the other two. Also with the wedge on the Malibu you can expect worse fuel economy, if you care about that.
