RE: Re: RE: JD Power-Malibu Forum

I prefer my 196 over anything, I am not near as good a skier as some here but I can tell a difference. I think when buying a boat the customer service after the sale is more important than the sticker on the side. Poor customer service makes any boat look bad.

This is a thred that will pop up yearly. But we need to wait for winter to get it going. Lets wait until november to argue which boat is better.
I vote for the 196 and CC.

Sure it matters how the owner treats his boat, but he has to have something of quality to work with first. Crap will always be crap no matter who takes care of it.

I have an 81 CC that I recently used to take an owner of a new Malibu skiing. He told me he liked my 25 yr old better than his 2 yr old one!

My boat was on the US ski circuit, then bought from the Dallas ski club, who used it on the circuit, then passed through my family. One of my family members let it sit outside uncovered for 3 years before it was handed off. The interior went to crap (although the floor is still as hard as a rock), the engine just sat and got rusty, the hoses dry rotted, along with all the other stuff that goes wrong when something isn't taken care of.

When I got it I had to do some work on it to get it back into good order, but I guaranty that you won't find a better running more solid boat than mine on the lake, and that's not something that just any MFGs boat can go through.

It was build with quality, and kept it's quality despite what kind of care was given to it.

Other MFGs might be raising their quality, but they still have a long way to go in order to prove they can compete with CC and CC's history, at least in my eyes.

Take boats that are 5 years old and compare them and that will tell you how much quality is put into a boat. A brand new boat just off the showroom floor is going to look good even if it is built like crap. I think that is where the proof is. I personally dont know if a 5 yr old cc is better than a 5yr old mc or bu. I think the competition is definetly tighter.

I think it is cool that CC wins the award every year but it would not have one bit of influence on my boat purchasing decision.

i agree, quality lasts. when i bought my 86, the engine was misaligned, carb was set to rev wayyy too high, points were burnt and the tranny linkage was out of adjustment. after $10 and about 3hrs of work, she runs like a dream. i've had many "new" boat owners (all brands) comment about how it cranks right up the first try. they are all amazed. other than the wiring, i am completely satisfied with the quality

Hey skisix, I'm surprised nobody has brought up the windshield "dip factor" yet. Isn't that the most important telltale feature on any ski boat. Hahaha! Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

My boat gets older every second and, knock wood, hasn't let me down yet. I love it. Then again, I love 'em all and am glad they're not all the same.

                  Nate,

I frequent this site and many others to see what's being discussed about slalom skiing. I love the sport and try to spread it to all that I can.

Regardless of motives and audience, a statemnet like that is just in poor taste.

That would be akin to me saying that all those on wakeworld are bratty teenagers. That's a fact that's never even been disputed because it's glaringly true.

Just because you call it a fact does not make it a fact. I have only seen a couple of the elitest snobs on here, and even then I would not call them that just bacuse they like CC over all others. That is like calling all BU owners eletist snobs because they hate CC.

This morning on the malibu forum he actually wrote he was sick of boat wars.

For a guy who is sick of war he can certainly launch a grenade or 2.

                        Malibu / Nautique

My neighbor has a 96 Malibu Response that we ski w/ two times a week. The other times, we use my 97 SN. Both boats are about the same age, same hours and have been exposed to approx. the same amount of use. Both ski great. The SN tracks a bit better and the 22/28 off wake is better. The main difference is in how the boats have held up. His exterior looks good but the interior seams are all splitting, the carpet is wearing out and he has soft spots in the floor around the motorbox. By comparison, my interior still looks new, the carpet is holding up well and it drives as good as new. THIS is why I own a CC and am willing to pay a little more. He thought about selling his boat and upgrading but could only get 14K for it. I turned down an offer of 19k for mine last year. I figure my boat costs about 3-4k more than his. So........for the last 10 years, I've enjoyed a better product for "less" money and have something that holds its value better. THIS is why I own a CC.

A friend just picked up his 07 MC 190($42K); there are things that I don’t get, Why does the boat only have 1 gas fill? Why does the heater have no window defroster? Why no remote for the stereo? Why is the rear trunk 5” deep? Why are there no grab rails by the swim platform? Why do you have to get a walk thru windshield? Why can’t you get a keyless ignition? Why is there no raw water strainer? Why are there no lift rings? Why is 36 mph 3820rpms?
Why did I buy a CC? Attention to details in the boat. Details that make a CC stand out from the rest. That makes me proud to own a CC.
