    ZR6 evalutaion after 200+ Hours

I am considering a 2004 model 226 with a ZR6 that has about 225 hours. I wanted to know if anyone has positive or negative comments on performance, longevity, closed cooling, reliability, maintence, etc. Does it consume a lot more gas than a GT-40?

Would you buy another one if you own one now?

RE: ZR6 evalutaion after 200+ Hours

I have had four on my last four promo Ski Nautiques. No problems from any of them. They don't seem to use any more gas than my '02 Excaliber used the way I use my boats. I am sure that if you ran them wide open, you could use more fuel, but at skiing speeds, not an issue. I can say that they use much less than the MC PS197's that have pulled the same tournaments as me the last couple of years. (by a factor of around 50%). All have been great running engines and the closed cooling is a definite plus. (Heaters put out better heat, engine stays at a stable temp., no corrosion, easier winterizing....)

Just traded in my 03 210 with nearly 700hrs on it. No issues at all with the close cooling or the motor. Really love the acceleartion with a slammed 210.

I have an '05 - Team 226 with ZR6. I have logged close to about 170 hours on it already and i have zero issues with it so far. I will say that the ZR6 is the right choice of motor considering the size and weight of the 226. You will not regret the extra HP that comes wit it, as you will need it when you start weighting the boat with ballast etc.
Closed Cooling is Great - no issues. I have not done any maintenance on it as I typically have the Dealer do the Service work so I cant comment. The way the motor is situated, it might be a little tough to access the water pump & impeller, but not impossible to do a DIY servicing. Oil filters, FCC, Water strainer, spark plug wires are very easy to access.Yes it consumes Gas, but Im sure, if you compare to other motors, it will only be marginal difference.

I Love the 226 ! Its a Fun boat, lots of space, its big but drives like a small boat. The ZR6 is the motor to get to go for this boat. If you do decide with the purchase, I suggest to experiment with different props as they will give you different results.

Hope this helps you and Good Luck !

Abun and Redelf have been pretty quite lately. I wonder if they've been out in the garage the last month trying to get that impeller changed?

I was expecting the little one to jump all over this thread.
