    Nautique PLEASE READ!

    Dear Nautique,

Today my family and I were preparing to use our Paragon with a number of competitors to record on-line videos for this week’s wake surf competition. To do this we use the LYNC GoPro auto record feature extensively. While it does not work flawlessly, we have become accustomed to its quirks and are able to utilize this option to regularly record competition surf runs.

While we were preparing the boat, we were informed that a software update was ready which we decided to download and install before we left the dock. The update list described significant changes, so we were initially excited. But to be honest this update is a MAJOR step back and I need to check with my dealer to see if I can revert back to the prior software build.
The first thing we noticed was the GoPro screen was completely removed from the main screen and was nowhere to be found in any of the sub-menus. That function had so many anomalies I can understand you taking it offline to address. We have a back-up GoPro Smart Remote Velcro-ed to the dash for when the Lync GoPro connection does not work properly. So, this was not a show stopper for us.

What has me totally annoyed is that you chopped off the rear-view camera image to uncover the thruster Manual Steering Assist and Auto Steering Assist controls which prevents seeing the surfer when underway! WIth this change we also can no longer see if another boater or jet skier is coming up on our surfer which reduces her safety. I have always been annoyed by having to minimize/maximize the rear camera view to access the thruster controls, so your intent is welcome, but the execution is in my opinion very poor.

The real problem is you kept the absolutely worthless Wake SHAPE CROSS SECTION icon that takes up ½ of the left side of the LYNC Screen. This icon is absolutely worthless and provides no information that can’t be gleaned by looking the Wake Shape control setting. So WHY PRESERVE IT TO CHOP THE VIDEO window?

In my opinion removing the Shape Cross Section COMPLETELY from the display and putting the Steering Assist controls above the surf controls (all on the left side) would be a FAR better and more useable update. I show a mockup of this in the last image below. This way the rear camera view could utilize the entire height of the right side of the screen keeping a safe view of the surfer and the area behind them while underway.

PLEASE fix this or provide a way to revert back to the prior software build.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Yes. I understand and will use that avenue but I believe social media awareness is an effective tool as well. Thanks.

It 'd be even better if you were able to customise your own dashboard, showing what you like and at what size...more or less like the widgets on iOS.

ps: is the update available for the previous model? ( prior 2022 )

TV screens , electronic steering and thrusters I feel like you are talking a different language? What are you going to do when the boat is 10 years old out of warranty and parts are no longer available. I fear the new technology not so much because of its complicity but its lac of long term support?

IIR....Greg rolls over his boats almost yearly...protecting him from this scenario. But yeah, I would be hesitant to own a 10 year old version of one of these machines.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll avoid the update for now if possible... I do find it annoying that you have to minimize the camera view to use the thruster controls on the screen but we honestly just went to the small camera view and can use the thrusters too in that config. The mirror is also useful and I'm certain Greg uses his, but when you are used to the tools you've been given and they stop working as they did before, there is a valid reason to complain about it even when you still have the mirror.

Yes. But I pay for the screens on a premium boat to be able to use them. Does your car come with a backup camera? Why on earth would you want that when you have a mirror? Really?

greggmck is this the new 22' software on a 21'? I was just told by our dealer we wouldn't be able to get that software on a 2021.

Exactly. We have a mirror but I like using the camera way more at speed. Its easier to see the rider and the larger surroundings (ie boats following too closely, jet skis etc) Wider and longer range field of view is better than the mirror provides. Plus these tools are there for a reason and we all should be able to use them to their full potential.

I have a 2021 Paragon. This is a software update to that boat. I think the question you are considering has to do with the new supplemental ballast screens on the 2022 G23 and it being applied to update the 2021 G23? I don't know about that but there were some posts claiming that the 2022 screen hardware is not compatible with prior generations which would preclude using its software on prior generation screens. Unfortunate perhaps, but this is the normal flow of technology.

Yeah I think you may be correct. Just seems odd that adding supplemental ballast to the software would be the reason new hardware was put in place. People run IOS 13 on iPhone 7s... I'm sure we'll learn more once people get their hands on this update.
Thanks for all of your help across the entire site; it has made enjoying our first Nautique much easier and you've saved me hours of headaches.
P.S. I just got my new Blusurf board and it is amazing.
