WakeSports12 .... just who are "all the guys giving their entitled posts"? I'd suggest if you disagree with someone..quote them and offer your counterpoint. But generalized non-specific broadsides really add nothing to the conversation.

The argument that everyone is equally entitled to calm water is complete b.s. There is no question that a surfer messes up the experience of everyone else on the water. A stand up paddle board does not mess up anyone else. The quantity of people that can enjoy the shared resource (the water) at the same time is effected by how bad someone messes up the water. And surfing is the king of crapping on everyone else.
Plus a group of 4 or 5 surfers messes up the water for many many hours. A group of 4 or 5 wakeboarders or anything else is maybe just a couple hours actually on plane.
IMHO surfing is pretty much a joke, on so many levels.Last edited by scottb7; 08-04-2021, 06:21 PM.

scottb7.....you may think surfing is pretty much a joke.....but look who's laughing at this joke the last ten years....the boat makers...the board and accessory companies, contest promoters....etc...etc. Think about that "Joke" for a second....where would watersports and the industry be right now if surfing hadn't popped up about 10 years ago.....seriously. By the way...I am not a hard core surfer...I wakeboard, kneeboard, pull the tube, jet ski, kayak, fish....so no...not a surfing fanboy....but just pointing out the obvious BANK that riding that little board has generated. Remember...any A-hole in any type of boat can "ruin" a cove on any lake.

I think we should get back to the "water disc" or saucer discussion. I like the bar stool approach. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMdWXX4jo/

Now that there is an athlete with some serious skills. It also solves the wake issue. No need to put a thousand pounds of lead in your new Paragon to get the perfect wake shape just put her in gear and go.
I will say though I really think you guys are missing the real fun with paddle skiing.....Last edited by bturner; 08-05-2021, 10:30 AM.

Nope, the non pro models are wood but I plan to sell high end custom models designed specifically to the needs of the well heeled and high end semi-pro / pro riders that will be made from composite carbon graphite. Just kidding of course.
We made our discs from a half sheet of 1/2" plywood back in the day then routed the edges over with a router. They can be any size you want but somewhere in the 40" to 48" range is where we were because we wanted to do the chair thing with them. If I remember correctly the first one we did we just painted red so we could find it in the water. I remember making one that was higher tech that we finished with fiberglass resin to seal it better. No glass mat, just resin. All you really need to make one is sabre saw, a wood screw with some string and a pencil to measure and draw the cut line then go at it. I remember being so impressed when the neighbor's Dad made one of these.
If you want a modern take on the disc HO makes their Rad inflatable disc for about $320. It sounds like a lot but with the price of plywood these days it may be cheaper than making one....

I did see the HO Watersports disc the last few seasons. My kids are a bit too old and it is a bit too expensive. But I did want one for fun stuff like chairs and ladders.

My old secretary said her boat, I think an older Tige, would drive and tube in front of wakeboarders, because they thought we enjoyed the extra wakes. I set her straight, but people probably thought her boat was intentionally being mean. Not being mean,... just ignorant. Also, they had a home on that lake, so you would expect them to know better.
Everyone enjoys riding on the best water they can find. I ride in a local mudhole w/ avg. depth of 5'-6', but there is a strip of water in the NW corner, that ranges 8'-11'. This is the only area I am even able to surf, but guess what,... everyone tows there. Other surfers, wakeboarders, tubers, and yes, even the skiers. This is also where the picnic area is, which sucks. Now, when I teach someone to get up on a board or tow a tube or someone who doesn't jump the wake, I dump the ballast and go to eastern half of the lake where the depths 4'-5'. It's far less crowded and it's a much larger space. I can't surf here, but it works for everything else I want to do. You'd think more skiers and tubers would use this area since it's smoother, larger, safer, smaller wakes/rollers,... but they don't. I make sure to find a secluded area if passengers want to hop in the lake to cool off and I always idle when picking up riders (unless a crazy boat is heading for them). You'd probably see me as a jerk, but I really make an effort to be safe and stay out of peoples way.
I use to ride behind my Dad's Malibu. I'd be the first out there, but it would take me over 30 mins to fill all the sacks. I got to watch ski boats drop in and just RUIN my glass. This did happen, but I'm being sarcastic. If I didn't like it I had the option to wake up earlier or ride a different lake.

We surf on main channels as it’s easier and less stressful for the wife to pull me there (although that’s in mornings and evenings).
I always used to stay away from small channels due to the size of our wave, but now that we have a house with double boat lifts at the lake, I see first hand what the large surf waves do to our boathouse (it isn’t good!). Only a few people actually surf past our house but plenty do wakeboard past us

This is no joke from today. I'm riding my hydrofoil and it is not too busy where we all share the river. It's a nice cut and settles quickly if gets busy. Here comes the same two Inboard boats that make a mess every weekend towing tubes, making huge turns to pickup their riders , always 'trying' to surf in the middle of the cut...you get the picture. Guy pulls up immediately when I fall with his tube still behind and starts asking me 'is that hard to ride'?
44 year old me says: no it's a balance thing and if you can ride a bike without hands, you could easily do it. Hit me up some time when we have a smaller crew and you can give it a try.
20 year me would have said: it would be a lot f$$king easier to ride if you weren't always out here screwing up the good water with your idiot friend.
My wife and shared some thoughts when we were eating lunch. Some people just dont know they are making a mess for others. And, both these a$$holes swamp my dock everytime they go past at 10 mph. Did it today as we were having lunch and talking about them. It's like clockwork.
