Reliability of G23 Paragon?

I recently bought a used 2020 G23 Paragon. I'm trying to decide if mind is typical or if I just got a bad apple as I consider ordering a new one instead. The boat I boat - one owner - with 60 hours on the clock- has had the following issues so far:

1. Display cable disconnected - took them three tries to finally fix it.
2. Boat wouldn't start - was a bad fuse
3. Boat wouldn't start - found I had to play with the throttle - it was in neutral but I found I had to take it out of neutral after pushing start and it would start up.
4. Marine gas pumps don't like filling my tank. Won't consistently run full flow. I have to open the other gas cap on the other side and play with it. Sometimes I have to put in a gallon, stop and do it again and again.
5. One of the rear storage hatches would pop open while running on the lake. They adjusted the mechanism.
6. The bow thruster won't always come on when below 4MPH. Does it have a limit to usage?
7. The cup holders don't stay in the holes when you pull drinks out of them.
8. One time, randomly, the engine just shut off at full speed. Restarting and it went away.
9. I found the tower a little rickety and speed with bumps.
10. The straps on top of the bimini make noise with wind at speed.

So why even consider buying another one? I really love the layout - tons of storage. I love the simplicity of the tech. I don't need massive customization of my wave. I love all the grip on the side rails - on the front - everything is just so well laid out. Love the rear seats.

Just curious from those who own 2020 (or newer) G23/G23 Paragon - are you having similar issues? Is this to be expected? Is this probably just year one gremlins?

Can’t speak for the rest of them but 4 has been an issue as long as Nautique has been using in-floor tanks. It’ll probably never go away. It’s a vented tank and the vent line gets clogged easily. Best thing you can do is open both caps like you have been and pump upside down at 3/4 speed, going faster if it allows.

If you are in to affliction clothing check out https://pavati.com. I believe them to be the best fit and finish on the market. Sounds like you might have most of the gremlins worked out, best advice is to learn to be handy with these boats.. Shouldn't have to but it's the reality. Remember - like hand made leather shoes where every stitch isn't perfect, these boats are hand made too.

Only had our P23 a few months now and like 30ish hours on it, but the only things on your list I've noticed is the cup holders, but that's not unique to the Paragon. We have not had any trouble filling the gas tanks, check your vent for a blockage. The only other issue I've had that I need to call the dealer on is the power steering sometimes does not work after starting the engine. I've had this happen 3-4 times now, and every single time it was when switching riders and shutting off the engine but leaving the rest of the power on. Every time we have stopped and rebooted the boat and it's fixed, no idea why but it's very difficult to steer when it happens. I love the boat and would hands down recommend it to anyone.

3) A friend of mine had a similar issue as well on a new G23 (2019) but it was fixed when they tightened the throttle, it was loose and the boat thought it was in gear from the factory and wouldn't start reliably. Once tightened all was good.

4) As others have said, open the opposite fuel cap while filling and you should be good

6) There are different setting on how the auto steer assist works, you can adjust in the linc screen how you would like it deployed.

I dont own a paragon but love the finish of them and am planning to move into one in a couple years when all the new ones start hitting the used market. These issues dont sound all that different than anything else that happens with a boat. S**t breaks on these things, its all part of the game.

No worries. I dont know the exact fix because these are drive by wire I believe, but he said once the dealer "tightened" the throttle the boat knew when it was in F/N/R and the issue went away.

I have not experienced this.

Fuses are push button. Reset them. Spurious current spikes can occur. I become concerned when a fuse pops again after reset.

3. Boat wouldn't start - found I had to play with the throttle - it was in neutral but I found I had to take it out of neutral after pushing start and it would start up.
ALL Nautiques will not start unless the throttle is straight up in Neutral. The FIRST thing to do when the starter does not fire is to check the position of the throttle.

4. Marine gas pumps don't like filling my tank. Won't consistently run full flow. I have to open the other gas cap on the other side and play with it. Sometimes I have to put in a gallon, stop and do it again and again.
I have never had this problem when fully inserting the gas pump nozzle.

5. One of the rear storage hatches would pop open while running on the lake. They adjusted the mechanism.
I had this problem too. I ordered a new latch and installed myself. Never occurred again.

6. The bow thruster won't always come on when below 4MPH. Does it have a limit to usage?
Thrusters have no cooling system. They are thermally protected by auto shutdown. A thruster should always be used sparingly. On multiple boats I have never use it enough to cause a thermal shutdown.

7. The cup holders don't stay in the holes when you pull drinks out of them.
Yes. This is a Nautique problem.

8. One time, randomly, the engine just shut off at full speed. Restarting and it went away.
In 230 hours this also happened to me once. It has not ever happened again. I do believe this was addressed by an update?

The tower MUST be in full up or full down locked position when in rough water.


10. The straps on top of the bimini make noise with wind at speed.
All loose straps will rattle in the wind. Tighten them and they will not rattle.

Thanks. Appreciate you going through all items - especially with the number of hours you have had. That is very helpful. I am hoping the throttle issue on start will be solved by the tightening. I definitely understand the need for it to be in neutral. Lately I feel like I have to bump it out of neutral and it starts. Def not right. I also tried a bump of different angles on the fuel pump. And I always have the other side open just in case. Anyway - thx again. Will probably order a 2022.

The throttle has a Neutral detent that allows the lever to have play around where the sensor will operate the ignition. Every G I have owned has operated this way. If the ignition does not fire, just wiggle the throttle without pulling the safety lockout. It will start. This is normal behavior.

While I don’t have a Paragon but have had the same problems with cup holders on my prior Gs . My dealer suggested I take the rubber liners out of the cup holders. They came out far less if at all even while using a larger Yeti. Still doesn’t fix the issue but certainly lessons the aggravation and less strain on the cup holder.

Thx. I do find it funny that a manufacturer has this issue (which sounds like a known issue for a long time) and doesn't fix it. Seems like it would be an easy fix and just a simple way of addressing known gripes. Took the kids out for an early AM surf session today and kept being annoyed I couldn't get my coffee out of the cup holder. :-). First world problems, I know, but on a $300K boat? Anyway - not critical. Just stupid simple to fix.

^^^ Agreed, first world problems for us for sure but stuff you would expect to work properly for the price we way. That said, all hand built things provide both luxury and hand built problems.

460 hours here on our P25 and the only issue I would consider we’ve had is the fuel. When we took delivery you could only get about 60 percent fuel in the tanks and then it would only trickle in regardless of nozzle position and the other fuel cap being open or closed. Took almost an hour at the pump to get 100 percent, pretty frustrating. My dealer (who’s amazing btw) came down and quickly realized there was too much fuel line in the fuel tank from the factory. After removing 3 feet of line from each side it goes straight up to 92 percent before trickling in the rest. Might have your dealer check the fuel line length, according to my dealer ours wasn’t the only boat off the assembly line with this issue.
