    Shallow boat launch question

Water is down here in Oregon and there is a lake I really love to boat on, but the regular boat launch is closed for the year. There is a second boat launch but it is a much shallower approach. How much water does the trailer need to be in to launch my super air Nautique 230 without messing up my prop?

The draft on that boat is 30 inches. So 30 inches minimum to not hit your boat on the bottom of the lake. However, the bigger issue might be getting it off and perhaps even more so, back on the trailer.

The draft for a 2020 SAN 230 is 29”, add 6” as a safety factor plus some additional depth since your boat is “up” on a trailer.
With my SAN 210, I was good to launch once my trailer fenders were underwater.

It can make a difference which trailer you have as well. My boatmate trailer sees to need a little more depth than my Ramlin did.

You are correct 29", but 6 inches extra just to launch seems a bit excessive no? Assuming no rocks or other obstacles near launch.. If it's sandy/mucky you can pretty much skim the bottom so long as it's just to launch. You could even push it to deeper/safer water.

I agree, it could be a bit more than necessary but my concern would be reloading. If the trailer isn’t deep enough in the water then the bow will raise up as it goes on the trailer, if that causes the stern to go down a little, those extra 6” may be necessary.
I also agree that it can be pushed into deeper water then, at the end of the day, reload by cranking it up with the winch.

              thanks!
ive always assumed i should only back up until my exhaust remains uncovered. anything else i need to watch out for with my vehicle? it is a long concrete ramp.

There’s no issue with your exhaust going underwater. For me, I don’t like to go deeper than the rock rail (painted metal) in front of my rear tire.

Bring a paddle to maneuver the boat near the trailer so your prop isn't spinning in shallow water. Your exhaust pipe can be submerged, just keep your engine running.
