what to look for on 2003 SAN 210

Greetings... New here, first post, but I have been researching things for a few weeks now and pretty much narrowed down what boat my wife and I are interested in. Interested in getting a SAN 210 from 99-2006, but focusing I think on the 2003-2006 models. We originally were interested in an SV211, but the weight of that boat plus tandem axle trailer was pretty close to my Explorer's max trailer rating(5600lbs) so we decided to step down to a slightly smaller boat that weighs a lot less.

Going to look at a 2003 SAN 210 Team tomorrow... I dont have the hull plate number, but will get it.

Well it's supposedly an SAN Team. It has a teak swim platform and from what I gather the Team had the composite swim platform in 2003. Was teak an option in 03 on the Team edition?

Also basically all the graphics on the side have been removed. It has no "AIR" graphics and no "super air nautique 210 team edition" at the stern. Just says "210" on each side at the stern with the little wakeboard graphic. It only has the lower swoop graphic that runs from the stern to the bow.

It has the FCT1 tower from what I can gather. Has been powdercoated blue to match the hull stripe(not sure if this is a factory option or points to the tower possibly being added after the fact).

It has the analog gauges(pointing it to actually be a 2003) as well as the Excalibur 330 motor. Has some form of Perfect Pass.

I am 99% sure it has ballast as it has the ballast gauges under the throttle.

Could it actually be an optioned up Super Sport(hence the teak swim deck)? The brochure, once you get to options, doesnt differentiate between a Super Sport and a Super Air, just says "210" which I believe both boats would fall under.

Just trying to make sure its an actual Super Air and not a Super Sport, although in theory both boats are identical and can be optioned out to be identical, but I think maybe there is a price difference between the two. I dont care about the graphics really I guess.

Also what else to look for on the boat that might be "pain points" so to speak on stuff that might need to get fixed? If we decide to move forward with this boat I obviously will be having a pre-purchase inspection done at the local Nautique dealer where the boat is located. Seller says oil changed and impeller changed yearly and all other maintenance kept up to date, but no records.

The vinyl is in ok condition, but does have its issues, but its a 17 year old boat with likely original vinyl.

Overall the boat looks, in the pictures, to be in pretty decent shape.

Thanks for any insight you all might be able to provide.

The platform was definitely an option that year. I had an '03, and mine had the rare black composite platform. Teak was definitely an option though.

I would bet that the boat s a real Super Air Nautique, not a Super Sport. Either way, it really doesn't matter. They are the exact same boat.

The gauges on a Team Edition or a Limited Edition would be digital gauges with analog-looking needles, and LCD displays in the bottom. Even though they appear analog, they are actually digital gauges that use a needle to display their info. If it has the white analog gauges, they have either been replaced with the gauge retrofit kit, or the boat is actually a Signature Edition. If it is an SE, it will have keyed start and toggle switches for the accessories instead of keyless start and push buttons.

Graphics are easy to replace. In fact I have the correct AIR graphics for that boat for sale if you're interested. Mine are New Old Stock, not reproductions, so they are exactly right for the boat.

On the plate by the throttle, you'll notice a model name. Don't be worried if it actually says Nautique Super Sport there. They all said that. Even the SANTE boats from the factory.

Its got the "analog" gauges with a small lcd at the bottom. Its got keyless start.

      Thanks for the info.

I read that with the hull number I can call CC and they can send me the original build sheet for the hull... is that still true?

Anything with those boats in general I should look for that could cause me pain later down the road?

Sounds like you do have either a Limited or a Team then, which is good.

Yes, the factory can provide the build sheet. Just e-mail Ron Nace at rnace@nautique.com and he'll hook you up.

The main thing that you will want to watch out for is the gateway box. The design of the gateway in 2003 was that the pitot tubes for the speedometer connect directly to the gateway box, and will eventually leak water into the gateway, causing it to stop working. At that point, you'll need to complete the gateway conversion to analog gauges. Price for the kit is about $950, not including installation. Some people disconnect the pitot tubes and just use the PP display for speed. That prevents the issue, but your speedometer will not work anymore. Whether or not you do that is up to you. The gateway conversion kit is currently on backorder, and can take months to ship right now.

A 210 weighs 3200 lbs. A 211 weighs 3900 lbs. They are both the same length but the 210 is quite a bit smaller boat in the freeboard.

So there is a well known Mis-print in the Nautique brochures. The 211 is actually around 3300. They got it corrected later on. If you search on this site you will find some discussion about it. IMHO if you don’t feel comfortable to tow the 211 with your vehicle I don’t think the 210 would be better. Especially with all the gear. A dual axle trailer is going to be much easier to pull with regardless if it’s a little heavier. I owned a 211 and have pulled both boats with a Ford 1/2 ton. I just don’t think you should count out the 211 for the reasons you are because they are not that different. If it is a long ways to the lake I don’t think I would be comfortable pulling either model with an Explorer.

I have read that a lot that the books were wrong, but almost nobody backed it up with the actual weight of their boat+ trailer... just one guy really that I found. Most were all "theoretical" type talk.

                Post 5.
                https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...-211-crossover

Guy weighed his boat and trailer. He got 4532 lbs for the boat and his gear, subtract 266 for fuel(38 gallons) is 4266. I cant see the rest of his list adding up to more than 300lbs...lets be generous and say 400lbs of stuff. 3866... thats pretty close to the book claim of 3830... and I was just spitballing that 400lb number. Then he says his double axle trailer was 1320lbs for a combined weight of 5852. I cant believe he weighed a "3300lb" boat out at 4532lbs... an 05 SV211 has a 1350lb payload rating... so that guy has 1232 lbs of "stuff" in that boat so he has 120lbs to spare on the payload rating... so he can carry like 3/4 of a person... I dont buy that an SV211 weighs 3300lbs...sorry.

I have searched around to try to find the same on an 03-06 SAN 210, but havent had any luck. Just a lot of people talking theoretical numbers... That doesnt help somebody like me who is looking to get into something with a tow rating that pushes them into one or another boat. So if I use the book number of 3190 on an 03 SAN plus 39 gallons of gas is 3463 plus lets say 1300 for a tandem axle trailer thats 4700 and then lets add in the same 400lbs of stuff from the above example gives me 5100 lbs... Much more comfortable weight on a 5600lb tow rating than coming right up on it(or over) with an SV211.

Im not towing far, like 1/4 mile to the ramp from the house, but I will be towing all the time as their is no marina and no public docks on the lake we live next to. Im not to concerned with that trip and being up at the tow rating. Im more concerned with when and where i purchase from. Im looking almost all over the country so I may have to tow 500+ miles to get home. I would also like to be able to travel a bit with the boat.

Here is the dry weights for 2006 for both boats . 30 lbs different. I know that dryweights can be mis-leading I agree with you that the person who weighed it in the other thread is probably accurate. But I think you would get a similar weight if you took the 210 across the scale. The dry weights are not real life. You could rent or borrow a pickup to go get one or for your long trips (maybe not an option) and I wouldnt worry about towing it to the ramp at 1/4 mile.

well looked at the boat today and I dont think its the boat for us. Definitely still in the market for a SAN 210, but not that boat.

                        Thanks.

The interior, while serviceable for a bit, would need to be redone which as I understand after talking to a buddy is 3-6k bucks depending on what you go with. Supposedly we have a really good place in Dallas, I just couldnt get the Nautique logo's as I guess they arent a certified supplier.

The rear swim platform needs a rebuild or replacement(not sure which). It appears that composite decks arent available to purchase anymore(from my searching) so having the teak deck rebuilt looks like my only option there, guessing at least 1k bucks.

The hull was in good shape save for 2 or 3 nicks in the gel coat that would be easy to repair.

The hull graphics that were there, basically the pin stripe that runs along the colored gel coat swish, would also need to be redone. The "AIR" logo was missing as was the "Super Air Nautique" on each side at the stern. Not even sure what all that would cost, but guessing at least 1k.

It has a fuel sender issue he said some times pop's up and he said one of the ballast gauges wasnt working the other day so he is guessing a sender in there is bad.

GUESSING it needs a new cover which I dont think are cheap.

So thinking through at least 5k bucks if not more to get the boat into shape FOR ME drives me to a different boat that needs nothing or very minimal work.

There is a nice 2002 Super Air 210 with a Python motor listed on FB Marketplace near me in Pennsylvania. Low hours, clean looking, etc. Dude knows what he has and priced it accordingly in today's market at $40K. Lol, prices of everything are so out of control.

Thanks. I think a python motor, for us, is way overkill. But great looking boat.

I'm looking to get in touch with this guy as this boat looks super clean. Just a pain to go look at boats so far away and maybe or maybe not make a deal. I can fly basically anywhere for free so I am only out my time and a rental car. And getting boats shipped or arranging for 4-5 days off work to drive out and get a boat and drive back isnt a huge deal either.

I have a 2001 SAN210 with 215 original hours, original interior with minor issues on the vinyl that I am about to list for sale. The hull is in good shape with a few minor dings but nothing major. Has a cover, tower speakers, ballast system, bluetooth stereo. I am the second owner and have owned it from 2004. Garage kept for most of its life. Boat is is very good condition given that its 20 years old. It was purchased new from Watersports Central in Buford, GA, which is where I bought it from on consignment from the original owner. The boat has been serviced by the same person at WSC who sold it to me for its entire life.

I take delivery of a 2022 G21 tomorrow, and will then be ready to let this great boat go. It has a tandem axle trailer as well. Let me know if you are interested - the boat is at Lake Lanier just north of Atlanta, GA.
