Chromax Hull Letters on '90s SN

I have a 1990 Ski Nautique that is in need of some cosmetic upgrades. I absolutely love the look of the Cromax letters on the Nautique 200s and they seem to look best on boats that have a single color deck and hull. I'm considering two things:

1. Removing my old decals letters and pinstriping and going with just Chromax on the sides of the hall and the transom (maybe after some wet sanding to minimize the unfaded areas underneath the decals), or

2. Wrapping my boat to have a solid color deck and haul and applying Chromax letters on top of the wrap.

I read here that the factory has cut outs through decals so the ChromeX letters can apply directly to the gelcoat instead of the decal film. Does anyone have experience at doing any of this? And I would love to see any photos of older boats with Chromax lettering on the sides.

Normally I would advise against straying from the stock look, however the decals for 1990 are simply unobtainable. I had a set that was left over from dealer stock, and it was the ONLY set of 1990-1991 decals available anywhere, and I sold them for about $500 earlier this year. Since staying stock probably isn't an option for that boat, I think the Chromax might look pretty good! I don't have any suggestions, other than do what you think will look best. The adhesive on those letters is pretty strong. but you should prep the area well (use acetone before applying if you're adding to gelcoat).

Tha.nks for the advice. I did have the internal struggle about trying to stay stock or going retro mod LOL.

I like the look of the new 200s. Even on the interior they're much more simple. Flat sections of upholstery and no carpet and only Ses Dek on top of the engine cover. I like that look and it should be easy to duplicate.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a quite drunk friend this summer. My BIL removed the tribal decals from his '05 MC X10. I have the stock decals on my '07 211. Our friend went on a 45 minute monologue about how much he appreciates the classic looks of the original decals.

I see both sides of the coin. XBIGPUN66, that looks good!
