Hull ID Report or other history check??

Anyone have a Hull ID report they like to use? I’m considering a boat across the country from me that is with a private party. The boat might need some gel coat work but otherwise appears in good shape. The price seems a little low so I’m trying to do my due diligence. The boat is in TX. Thanks in advance!

What part of TX? Could you possibly have the seller provide a dealer inspection of said boat and thus some level of confidence?

bird_dog0347 The boat is in San Antonio, TX. I received some additional pics last night that shows some significant damage to the fiberglass on the bow and some chips on the chine starboard side and some oxidation. The owner says about $3k in fiberglass repair would get it looking new. Without seeing it first hand I’m guessing it might be worse than. That it’s a 2006 Air Nautique the interior looks good and supposedly everything runs great and electronics are good to go. Anyone “got a guy” in that part of TX?

That's pretty far from me, 5-6 hours each way... But if you're on Facebook you could try the Texas Nautique Boat Owners group and see if someone there could look at it.

Sounds like you're looking for a Carfax type of history, but for boats. To my knowledge there is no such thing, but sure would be nice!

You could have a marine surveyor look at the boat. Basically similar to a home inspection, but for boats. They are usually done a larger boats, but I'm sure finding a surveyor to look at a ski boat can be done. Finding one in the area shouldn't be too difficult, but one that has experience with our type boats might be difficult.

Getting someone in the area to look at it for you is a possibility, but then you're hoping they know what they're looking at. No real safeguards if it turns out to be a pile.

I used boathistoryreport.com on the boat previous to the current one. Not exactly sure how good it really was but they say they check for leans, insurance claims and title issues like rebuilt titles. There was a ton of fluff, boiler plate type stuff in mine and not all that much meat. It did make me feel a bit better but really don't know how accurate any of the information was or if it was really pulled at all. Here's the link to the site I used.....

I hired a marine surveyor to look at a boat before I burned my frequent flyer miles to take a look myself. It is not common on "small" boats but it will outline the boats shortcomings.
