    2021+ G23 Surf RPM

What RPM are you guys seeing with stock prop?

2021 G23, H6, Surf set to 10, Full stock plus 1200lbs supplemental (pretty much same as a loaded 2022) and 6 adults in the boat I’m seeing 4400 rpm and struggling to hold 12mph. Sound about right?

As a side note, anyone else hear a little bit of a short engine cut out when getting up to surf speed? I can definitely hear something weird, but it could just be the surf pipe coming out of the water or something.

A G23 with an H6 will spin the stock 17x17 prop about 3500 rpm surfing at 11.5 mph. Increasing speed, adding people and 1200lbs over stock ballast will increase the RPM as the engine management tries to hold speed under the heavier load. Surfing into a strong current or headwind will also result in higher rpm to hold speed. 4400 RPM suggests the boat is overloaded. I would drop some ballast with that many people.

Leveling the boat by using a lower surf setting will help the boat maintain speed as well.

Also. I assumed you would have mentioned this but operating at altitude will result in less power at a given rpm so higher rpm at surfing speeds.

We’re at 2200ft, so elevation is not really an issue. Every boat I’ve had before this one had the XR7, so maybe I’m just used to more power.

I’ve got a 2021G 23 with the H6. Can’t really answer your RPM questions but funny thing ….I heard that little engine cut off for the first time this weekend when surfing I actually heard it twice just sounds like bad gas or a slight stall or something only when surfing. I know exactly the sound you’re describing. I’ve got about 45 hours on the boat and I’ve never heard it before last week.
