I've been avoiding upgrading from the basic gauges to the newer screen electronics. For us it feels like it's time. Currently have an 08 210 since 2019. Before that had an 2008 230 for a few years. We miss the storage from the 230 and have started lookin for a 23' boat. There is a 2019 210 for sale about 5 miles from my house, so I went to see it today. Beautiful boat. Don't know much about these, what's good, what could be better?

Just my .02, but I hear of many having issues with the LINC screen. Maybe it just seems that way and I am wrong. If there was a way to have back up gauges then I would be more inclined. I personally think 08-09 230 was one of the best years for the 230.

On the topic of the screens, I look at it like smartphones. You certainly know of people that have destroyed an expensive smartphone, but in reality, it actually a fairly small percentage of people that have a problem. And a Smartphone offers a lot of features that you don't get in older phones. I don't see that many people these days walking around with flip phones.
I know people think the screens on the boat don't offer that much, but I think that's largely people that haven't had one. Now that I've used them for years, I couldn't really imagine not having the stereo volume auto adjust up and down when I pick up and drop surfers and wakeboarders, or having profiles for each person so I don't have to remember their ZO slalom settings, their surf setup preferences, and their wakeboard settings. I don't think I could live w/o auto-launch.
I have screens in 3 of my 4 boats. I've never had a single problem with any of them. Actually, I'm adding a screen to the 98 Nautique I'm rebuilding. And sorry if I use a mixture of MasterCraft and Nautique terms. I have both brands of boats. Or maybe it because I've worked as a design engineer in the industrial sector for years before retiring and I'm very familiar with this type of technology. And while I haven't had an issue with any of my screens, I've fixed a few of the Murphy display units used in Nautiques and MasterCrafts over the last few years.

Yeah, but in reality, how long does one have a smartphone? I'm on 2.5 years with my current one, and that's been my longest lasting phone. I do like the functionality that the screens add, but to those of us that buy "older" boats, the screens appear to be a huge gamble.

14 years of boats with digital interfaces, no issues. Do not know anyone who has had a screen failure, but clearly, just like gauges, a few will have issues.
Keep in mind the majority of larger boats have had digital interfaces for the last 2 decades. This is not new tech. Like other software, some functional limitations only come to light after end user usage. But actual failure seems rare.

hondaprlud, 2010 has the LINC1 screen unless ordered specifically with gauges, ie. "Limited" and not Team. My '08 is beginning to have some gauge issues due to the Faria Gateway system. This is actually a bigger issue as the Gateway system has to be replaced, either with a bypass/rewiring kit and all new gauges, or as someone here has done a project with a "glass" display and a NMEA 2000 network. This is the definition of B.O.A.T., depends on how much time you have to dedicate to projects!
On the original question of 210 vs 230, the 210 can produce a nice wakeboarding wake and a decent surf wave, the 230 will do more and I prefer the 230 for both wakeboard and surfing. 230 rides better on rough days.2008 230 TE-ZR6

I will say spending time in boats with screens and tech and haveing my 08 210. I don’t know I am afraid of the tech as much as I was when Linc first launched. I think the dial system that nautique now uses to navigate the screen vs the original Linc Screen has sold me. Having that dial at your throttle hand to navigate the menus makes things effortless.
i do still worry about availability and software issues down the road , but I am more confident today in the system outlasting my longevity. With that said my 08 has been absolutely bulletproof . I’ve maybe missed a week of water time in 800hrs. Having the ability to troubleshoot and wrench on it is something I enjoy. Having two daughters now taking it out solo I almost wish I had screens for the simplicity of getting the boat setup with hydrogete , NSS and weight for wakeboarding and surfing as my wife and one daughter are regular footed and other daughter and myself are goofy. There is a lot of steps to remember on there manually , where the presets with screens would make it about as easy we less intimidating for them take out solo em with friends.
