    OG SAN210 vs 2018 SAN230

I have tried searching a ton for reviews in this forum and still somewhat confused/torn.

I have an OG 2003 210 and it has the super vertical poppy wake. I have enjoyed that wake style to be honest.

I am looking at upgrading to a 230 for space as we grow our family. I wakeboard 80% of the time and surf 20% (this could change as I get older - currently 30)

Can someone share the experience wakeboarding on the 2018+ 230 wakes? Is it really washy under 22 MPH? I do NOT want that.

    Thanks!

I don't have any experience on the 230. But I have experience going from the OG 210 wake to a G23. And I can tell you it extended my wakeboarding time for many years (currently 37). Having a huge transition to land on with soft landings and not landing in the flats every time changed the game for me.

I LOVED the OG 210 wake. So much straight up pop. But once you adjust to a wake with more ramp everything gets a little less harsh.

We ride at 22mph and 65ft behind the G and everything is pillowy soft except for the lip of the wake. So nice.

I'd imagine the 230 is somewhere in between but can't confirm.

30 and 37...what are you complaining about? I am about to hit 60 and I still am not about to give up wakeboard for plowing through the lake surfing. When I do quit, I will probably just drive for others. Sheesh. I run a 230 and to me the only thing negative is the finicky wake if you ride under 22mph.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I have heard the "finicky wake" here/there in a couple threads/posts on the 230. I do ride under 22 MPH especially with my 30+ knees LOL.

I will be curious is more riders respond with other feedback!

I am still wakeboard 80 plus percent of my water time. I loved the OG 210. Used to ride that 23.5-24mph with 85ftune back in the heyday . Our crew had 4 of those , couple 205V/Xstars.

I went with a 210 over the 230 simply because of wake. My daughters at the time , younger , were learning to ride and the ability of the modern 210 to have cleaner wake at lower speeds was priority to me. The storage in the new 210’s is double if not triple the OG 210. You can ride the 230 slower without ballast but even factory, it’s sweet spot is 23mph. It’s pretty difficult to maintain the clean wake with ballast under 22.5. If low speed wake is priority check out newer 210. If size is ahead of wake,,,,,230. The modern 210 feels much much bigger that the original. With all that said , the 230’s wake when loaded does have bit peakier wake than the newer 210 , it has just an ever so slight more kick at the top of the peak. If I didn’t need the Lower speed aspect I would definitely own the 230. I ride at 23.5mph still at 44yrs old so that boat fits me well.

if wake and size are equally important , I’d push you to a G23 as mentioned above.

I went from a 95 Super Sport to a 2011 230 so I went from same hull to same hull. The 230 wake is finicky but nice. It’s adjustable with the hydro gate but even full vert isn’t as vertical as an OG 210. It is super sensitive to side-to-side weight so you may need to move some people around. The 230 can run lower speeds but not at full ballast. I’ve gone down to like 20mph with about 80% full rear and 100% front. The wake setup that way still pretty close in size to what the OG 210 can do. That hard OG Nautique kick is definitely gone but the kick the 230 gives is a little more predictable.

Surf is a whole other beast. The 230 is one of the better surf waves out there when setup right. I almost sank my Super Sport trying to get something decent and failed. The 230 was the boat where I went from 80% wake / 20% surf to more like 10%/90%. If you’re really looking to wakeboard less and surf more the 230 is a good boat to do that in. If you’re interested in keeping your wakeboard percentage high I’d look into a newer G21 or 210.

Gonna be honest the G21 completely slipped my mind. How I haven’t a clue because that’s my Forum riding buddies boat . The g21 wake is probably the most vert in the line. It’s as close to am og 210 as you can get. I am kicking myself for omitting that completely.

                Great recommendation Hal

We had a 2004 210 with 5000 lb ballast. The wake was above the knee and rock hard like a curb. Now that I am older I appreciate the smaller softer wake on my 2014 210.

I have a 2020 G21 and I no longer wakeboard, but every time I set it up for someone else to wakeboard I am amazed at how awesome the wake is and have to look away before I strap on the board!

I’ve got the surf wave dialed in pretty good now too.

I wakeboard most of the time and only surf a few times a year. I wakeboard at 20.5 to 21.5 depending on what I am working on. Don't really feel like it washes out at the slower speeds. Might start to wash at 19 19.5 depending on the weight in the boat. I have 650's in the rear on top of the factories. I have a 400lbs arrow sack under the front seats with an additional 200lbs of lead too. I have found that you can overweight the boat after a certain point. I like the ramp of the wake with nice lip at the top to give you a nice pop. I could never ride the old 210 wake. It was like hitting a huge cement curb. You felt the crash or impact under the board. The 230 has a nice ramp and helps with the landings. I am turning 62 in a few months and don't plan on giving up wakeboarding anytime soon. Usually ride three times a week at 7am for a workout verse going for a walk...
