    2022 G23 Supplemental Ballast

We purchased a 2022 G23 with the additional Supplemental Ballast option ,When the boat is in surf mode with the supplemental ballast full or even half full we loose steering on the port side. Meaning when the port side makes the wave and you try to turn left no electronic steering. Any suggestions ? We called the dealer and Nautique Customer care they tell us that's just normal on the G23 deal with it .

No. That is not normal at all. I have a 2022 G23 and I've never seen that behavior.

I have a 2021 so no supplemental ballast, but no, that's not normal. We did lose the electric steering a few times last year when we would shut down the engine and change riders, but when we stop and do a full reboot of the boat it would fix it.

Again wrong, the thruster does not operate above 4mph in any mode (I have one). Does the boat operate normally with the 4 main ballast full but nothing in the supplemental?

Yes I have tested the boat with the main three tanks full and surfed on the port side and it is perfect, no steering issue at all . But when you add any supplemental ballast water it has no steering to the left when surfing port side .

I know that this is not a big deal now for Nautique but with them adding the supplemental ballast to the G23 paragon for 2023, I just don’t see how this is going to fly with new owners. Nautique has always been good to me so I feel like when they really start focusing on this that there should be a fix that they implement, how hard is to send a software update when the supplemental ballast are filled and I change to the port side for surfing that the steering changes to accommodate for the added weight. Or even make the rudder longer for the boats with the supplemental ballast . Something to fix it, not oh that’s just how it is sorry for you adding additional options on the boat but they don’t work .

I too have a 2022 G23 with the supplemental ballast, and have experienced the loss of power steering. This has only happened during surfing, and will occur to either side. A full reboot with fix the problem (until it happens again). This will usually happen once or twice while we are surfing. I have not noticed it only occurring when the supplemental tanks are full (I'm pretty sure it has happened on all surf settings). The dealer did take a look at it when I had the boat in for another problem (overheating), but I don't think they put much effort into figuring it out, and obviously didn't 't fix it. If anybody has found a permanent fix for this I'd love to hear it.

When you do a full reset how long does that last usually?

I just have a hard time believing that the number one wake/surfboat in the industry is going to just leave it alone, I feel like it’s a simple software update. In 2023 when they put the supplemental ballast on the paragon if they are having issues with it they will get it fixed.

It varies. Sometimes it doesn't happen again, sometimes it happens with the next surfer. It's really odd.

It has to be software related... my 21 P23 had the issue numerous times where all power steering would stop working until you full reboot the boat, haven't had that problem this year. I did ask the dealer to look into it, and work was done, but no specific culprit was found. Software updates have been done and it hasn't been an issue. If a reboot fixes it, it's a software problem (25 year IT nerd here).

Can I do a full Reboot or does the dealer have to do it ?

Would you guys even buy a G23 without the supplemental ballast?

It was the 1st year that it was available, and it made since if everyone can't make it one weekend we can still go have fun without having to add lead bags in the boat. Hopefully Nautique gets it fixed and yes when it works I would get it again. The whole boat is phenomenal Nautique makes the best Wake/Surf boat .When they fix this it will be perfect for my family.
