Upgrading from an '86 SN 2001?

I have an '86 SN 2001. It was somewhat neglected when I purchased it, having sat for a number of years on the eastern side of the Sierras. Nevertheless, I was just excited to ski and it was a dream to have a SN (...upgrade from an old 16' Glastron 65hp OB). I was gifted a barefoot boom which has been awesome for getting my young kids on the water.

Over time, I've done necessary repairs/upgrades and it's been tons of fun. Mechanically, it's in good shape, considering it's nearly 40yrs old (351 Windsor). I did remove the floor several years ago, inspected the stringers, replaced the marine ply, re-glassed, and ultimately re-carpeted and re-upholstered. It has about 1600hrs.

I looked for a model 2001 for a long time before purchasing my current SN. It is, in my mind, the quintessential ski boat.

All said, we've out-grown our SN, a common sentiment within these forums. I'd hate to get rid of it but also don't see the sense in having an extra boat should I find something a little newer/bigger. Any thoughts/suggestions for pricing an '86 SN 2001? It's not perfect by any means but looks nice and is ready to go.

Also, any insights into a newer CC with a little more room for family/friends without making major compromises on ski-ability? I'd like to stay in a direct-drive boat, if possible, and am pretty loyal to the CC brand. Sport nautiques seem pretty rare in my area and the price reflects it. I did come across a '99 pro air nautique but it seems there's mixed feeling re. the TWC hull design and, admittedly, the boat was a little rough and over-priced at $18k despite 550hrs.

    Thoughts/suggestions?

'86 is my favorite 2001 model year.

Look for a 2003 to 2008ish Ski 206 or 216. Open bow, nice wake for skiing, can add weight for wakeboarding. Not the best surfing boat. Will some more storage than your '86, but nothing like the newer boats. AFFORDABLE

You should be asking $8K to $10K...my opinion. Where is it located?

I’d say keep looking for a 98-2002 Sport/Air if skiing is your primary use and you are trying to make a step in room for an extra passenger or 2. The trunk and storage under the observer seat will be significant over your 2001 along with ski locker and some storage under bow seats. If you are trying to increase your passengers to more than 4 or 5, a jump seat could help or you may need to look into a sv211, but definitely will add a bunch to cost and maybe compromise ski-ability.

serl Kind of a strange coincidence, but nearly the exact same boat recently popped up on C-list in Minnesota.

Super good find MN Ryan, 1000 hrs on an '86, that is a cream puff.
I'll take the shop it is sitting in too, lol.

serl looks like the twin Sister of your boat, best of luck in your journey..!

I had an 1987 2001. I liked the sleeker bow surface. The 1989 had the single muffler, which would be nice.
Slant back was a no go for me. At the time I went to a new TSC1 hull and that is great skiing. The SNOB of era doesn't get you much other than a worse-skiing boat (engine back, heavier, less true space).

Def for the family fun factor, these days the models above are good. That is why I went to the 200. Skis great but my knees are taking the brunt of that wake over my custom TSC.

Skied year's ago behind a 2001 and remember the wake being pretty solid....not the best skiing experience.

I had a TSC1 '97 Ski Nautique closed bow and the wake was buttah.....really nice. But it was a pretty tight boat if you had any family aspirations.

Went to an '04 206 Limited open bow with a factory tower. Wake gives up a bit from the '97 Ski but it's still really nice. HUGE room upgrade with the narrower gunnels, tower to hang gear off of and the bow space. Bow pocket is usable and is a nice sun spot when parked. Less great when you running. I love everything about the 206 - plan to keep it a long time. Tricky to find...be patient. If you happen to find an 07+, it has the Zero Off and the 343 engine...a nice little upgrade. People will tell you can surf at 206 but I think they're nuts. Prices are still all over the map...nice ones seems to be in the mid 20's to low 30's..up at least 5k from a few years ago.

Next boat size wise after this is the 216...never been in one but if you really want space and a direct drive, that might be something to look into.
2004 206 Air Nautique Limited - Black with Vapor Blue (family style)
1997 Masters Edition Nautique - Zephyr Green - gone (amazing ski wake)
1982 Mastercraft Powerslot - gone (a primitive but wonderful beast)
