Remove Decal - Look More Updated? (Ghosting of Decal)

I have a 2013 SAN 230 with about 700 hours. I am trying to decide on keeping, removing, or updating the griffin decal. Does anyone have experience with this and thoughts on how much ghosting to expect?

My initial thoughts are to remove the decal and replace the chrome lettering with black but not sure what this would entail or where to even start. Please see attached!

Black lettering would look pretty tight on your boat, I would start there, then decide if you want to ditch the graphics. A little splash of black on the outside of those rims would flow, IMO. Always a market on Craigslist for used rims to recoup a few bucks. Keep us posted...

I removed the star decals on my 2013 210 and had almost zero ghosting. I can see a tiny spot above the rub rail on one spot, but no one else notices it. However, my boat resides in WI and is kept in storage for the winters so you might have more UV exposure over the years down south. I used a combo of hot days and/or a hair dryer to heat the glue and then gently peel the decals off using automotive trim removing tools so I wouldn't scratch the gel coat. Took a few hours but worth it in my opinion.

when removing the decals (or remaining adhesive) give a rubber “decal eraser” a shot - have used it when replacing nonskid decking’s adhesive. certainly speeds up the process in removing excess adhesive vs IPA, acetone or any other liquid/aerosol treatments.

can purchase one off amazon for ~$10

The darker the color and the more time it sits in the sun, the more likely there is to be ghosting. On my old 230, the white didn't ghost at all. The red did but you had to look really close to notice it. The worst of it were those diamonds. You can wetsand or use rubbing compound to help it out a little but you probably won't 100% get rid of it if it's there. I personally liked it better without the decals. I don't think it necessarily looked more updated, but I do think it looked more timeless.

As much of some of the graphics are really over the top or outdated, I think there's a benefit to having the boats be "era correct". Might look better now but down the line there's added value to a boat/vehicle that shows as the factory would have sold it at that time. Just a thought.
