I've been looking for a good 2001 for a while and it seems like all the nice ones are 12k to 15k, which is fine and I dont mind paying for a nice boat, but I found a '94 sport for 15k. The sport looks in good shape with low engine hours(350)and the seller said he would meet me half way. My real question is which boat has a better wake? I know the sport is newer, nicer, bigger, more storage, less hours and a better engine. Did I just anwser my own question? Also, is it the same hull as the super air?

RE: ski "2001" vs. 94 Sport
Also the boat is located in central N.C. and the guy says he dosn't winterize it. Should I be concerned about it.
How much weight do I need to use to get a good wake and keep in mind I am far from a pro. I was thinking that I would use 5-600 lbs of lead and just trailer it the five min. I live from the river.

Where in central NC? Where is it stored? Does he take any other precautions? Draining the block, heater on cold nights, etc?
If he just leaves it out all winter I would be concerned. I am in Raleigh.
And I also think you answered your own question. I have a 94 Sport and think it is a great boat.

RE: ski "2001" vs. 94 Sport
He lives in Albemarle, N.C. The boat is on the side of his house with a roof over it, but no walls. Seems like from talking to him he dosn't use any precautions.
dba4life that seems like it would be too much weight up toward the front. I could be wrong though. How do you weight yours?

RE: ski "2001" vs. 94 Sport
He said that it would get cold but never stay cold, so there was no need to winterize.
I think I may have found a better boat anyway.
95 Sport with 161 hours for 15,500 and it's a correct craft dealer selling the boat. I tried to call them, but it's closed on mondays. Should I worry about the low hours and the boat mabey sitting alot? It has the 255 hp engine and the 94 has the 310hp, does it matter?

RE: ski "2001" vs. 94 Sport
I live an hour west of Albemarle and there are some people down here that don't winterize and ski all year. It is rare that it stays really cold for long periods of time down here. Even through the winter its in the 40-50's during the day. I personally winterize my boat but not everyone does.

A '95 Sport might have the same hull as the legendary 95-06 SAN, just in direct drive form. I'm sure someone will jump in here and either shoot me down or confirm.
For that matter, I owned a '94 Sport for a number of years and it threw down an excellent wake, as well.'08 Super Air Nautique 210

My understanding is that the 1993-97 Sport Nautiques have the same hull in the water as the SAN. The SAN has higher sidewalls in the rear.
As far as weight it depends on how you want the wake to be. If you like steep just put all the weight in the rear. Like it a little more mellow put more up front. Also the more up front the slower you can go without the wake curling over. So the speed you run most will be a factor in your setup.
As far as not winterizing in NC. I guess to each their own. I would not take that chance without draining the block.
