What is the differnce between a 220 and a 226

    Looking to upgrade and have 2008 220 and a 2010 226 I am considering.
    1. What is the difference between a 220 and 226?
    2. I understand the 226 is a cross over what does that really mean?\
    3. Which would have the better surf wake?

The 220 is a 22ft wakeboard purpose built boat that actually does surf pretty well. The 226 is more of a crossover boat meaning they built it to wakeboard and ski. In my opinion the 226 will surf better and has the same hull as the 230. There is a member on here that makes knock off NSS plates for these boats as well.

Really depends on what you’re looking to use the boat for. The hulls are completely different and the interior layout storage is apples to oranges ,

since you mentioned surf I would even take another look at the 226. It’s hard to set up , can’t hide the weight , and the cutouts and angles of the hull near the transom make a wake shaper pretty difficult. The storage in the 220 will allow you to have all the ballast hiddden , the 226 will not. Especially for surf

the 220 hill has much more of a V hull at the rear. Gives better wakeboard and surf wake.

the 226 Crossover means it skis fairly well for a bigger v drive. It was a marketing hype “ term “ back in the day for a multi sport capeable boat. Most boats labeled crossovers wet ski boats first outfitted with wakeboard accessories

I haven ';t looked at 210s as I thought they would not provide much room or a good surf wake, but you both have 210s how is the surf wake and space for people?
I am coming off a direct drive and want the space, and a good surf wake without external ballast. So I thought the 220 was the best option.

You are going to get a lot of differing opinions and one thing is for sure, most likely going from a direct drive - you should notice better storage in any of the above. The 220 can be finicky for wakeboarding - not sure about surfing. The 226, as stated above, was a 'crossover' , and attempted to please all - but I'm not sure it did that as I believe is was only produced 1-2 years. IMO, you might be hard pressed to find a decent surf wave with no extra ballast. If you can push it, look for a 2008-2009 230.

The 226 was made for several years...not just 1-2. Also...remember...the 2010 226 is the "Newer" "smaller" 226. I had the bigger 2005 226 and the smaller streamlined 226. Really liked both boats. I would pick the 226 over the 220 if it were me.....or as Shag said.....a 230 would be better than both the 220 or 226.

The 220 can make a really good surf wake with extra ballast and a wake shaper. My friend and I go back and forth from my 230 to his 220. The 220 wake is a little smaller, but is just as solid as my 230. Fun wave to ride!
