    Paint and new gelcoat?

Bought my first boat this weekend, a '75 Ski Nautique. Where do you get a boat painted and new gel coat? Do I go to a regular painter like for a car or is there someone else? How much can I expect this to cost? Thanks for the help. I'm sure I'll have some more newbie questions later.

    where are you located?

try to wet sand an inconspicuous area with some 1500 grit and see what happens.

along the same lines as the sanding, but not as aggressive...

this is also dependent on how bad the finish is, but you may want to try this before you bust out the sander on your baby. Check out Meguiar's Heavy Oxidation Remover (http://www.meguiars.com/store_meguia...&subcatagory=2) wow that's a long link...i used this product to remove oxidation/hard water spots on our '92 excel before we sold it. you'll need a high speed buffer, and depending on how abrasive the pad you use is AND how much pressure you apply, you can have varying degrees of results. Using this stuff strips away a thin layer of the gel coat, revealing the deep original color, free from oxidation/spots/etc. IMPORTANT: after using the H.O. Remover, you need to restore the essential oils to the fiberglass, (you just stripped them away) by applying Meguiar's Boat Polish. Then follow with 1-2 coats of wax to protect your new beauty. You can read more about these products on Meguiar's website. Again, I don't know the extent of your finish problems...but this is definitely something I'd try before sanding away...Good luck...
