    2023 gs22

Hey everyone! New to the site here. Not yet part of the club but definitely trying to get there. Looking at a 2023 gs22. Our family still skis, wakeboard and surfs. We are currently in a 2007 vlx diamond hull and looking to upgrade. My daughter has started competing (wakeboarding) and the new boat wakes are unreal. How’s the wakeboarding wake compared to a Malibu vlx or a g21. She rode behind a master craft x22 and loved it but we ski and I definitely dig the gs22. They got it right in 2023. Thoughts? Can’t imagine it skiing as well as our boat as it weighs about 2000 lbs more

This might be too late, but we bought a new GS 22 this year (2023). The short answer is that the wakeboard wake is terrific. While we are novice riders, it is is perfect for us. But, this week we had an expert rider with us and he loved the wake and said it was among the best he’s ridden.

The slightly longer answer is…if you are someone who rides wakeboard speed with full ballast, you probably want to go to the upgraded engine. The 400 hp in ours is probably a little underpowered for full ballast at 22+mph. Now, maybe a prop change would be enough. I’m not sure. But, just our personal experience so far.

That said, we love the boat. So much room inside. Still fun to drive.

get the big engine. the new '23 GS22 is so much bigger than the previous versions. our's was a '19 and the '23 1 slip over dwarfs it. it is substantial. we had the H6 and it was great. the ZR4 in the GS20 we had, struggled. with the bigger boat, the bigger engine is a must, IMO

2 votes for the bigger engine noted! I spoke with the engine supplier today and they mentioned the 400 will not be offered next yr. The dealer said the 5.3 was adequate but I think I’d prefer something more powerful.

So we went from a 2006 Nautique 210 where we skied, boarded and surfed to a 2020 GS22. My wife is the slalom skier and she claims the ride behind the GS22 is better. From the driver viewpoint, the wake looks about the same size, but I think the slope of the wake and the "bumpiness" of it is smoother at the 32mph mark. She def likes it better.

This year, we transitioned from a 2008 SAN 230 to a 2021 GS22. My main motivation was to have a crossover boat. 80 % or more of time we are either surfing/tubing/cruising... but I still enjoy getting up early and doing a few laps on my slalom ski. I used to do "survival" skiing behind my 230 because crossing the wake was intimidating, which led to almost never doing any. Now I have a hard time finding early birds to drive and spot... wife and kids wake up when the waves pick up .

I do miss the extra storage we had on the 230, but compared to the VLX, I think you will have more storage in the GS22. I walked through the Malibu dealer's booth are the boat show, and I was not impressed with the storage room in the VLX.

At the end of the day, we are comparing the size of the bubbles in our different champagne glasses. I hope you and your family will find the boat you are looking for.

thanks. It's a 2021. We only ride 5 months out of the year up here, so I have a hard time justifying the purchase of a new boat ($$$). I walked through the 2023's at the boat show. they are quite the sight. According to the sale's rep, the skiing behind the new model (2023 vs 2022) is better than the previous. I have not tried the 2023 GS22 on water, so you'll have to get somebody else's word on that.
