You just have to pop the existing trim ring off, and then the Button Guard snaps on taking its place. There are some instructions with pictures here: https://www.evokemfg.com/instructions
- Getting the existing ring off isn't all that difficult. Take your time and find a spot where it'll move a bit.
- After you install the new ring, you MUST test the travel of every button. Press each button on the remote and make sure it clicks and returns back. If any button sticks in the down position, you will have to address this. I had to adjust the ring a bit because it was holding the "Volume Down" button.
- If a button sticks, the head-unit will simply ignore the entire remote. None of the buttons will do anything.
Thanks for the feedback Charles! I hadn't had anyone report that up to this point, but this is exactly the feedback that is important for making improvements. I'll reach out with an email to discuss the adjustment you made.
For the aluminum version - do you mean slightly less distance between the button and the inside of the guard, or slightly less thickness of the part you have to reach through in order to press the button?
Just putting in another plug for this product and specifically for Brian’s customer service. Mine arrive this week, installed it in about 20 seconds on Saturday, and absolutely love it. Solves a super annoying problem, seems well built, and is a perfect fit.
Now for the customer service part - when I first looked online and put one in the shopping cart, the shipping to CO came up as more than the part. I was surprised that no one had mentioned high shipping costs, so I just closed the browser and moved on. Well, Brian personally reached out to me via email to apologize and tell me that the high shipping cost was an error. I completed my order and the rest is described above. Outstanding service, looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!

I mean less thickness of the part you have to reach through. I assumed you made this version thick so that it has enough strength that it won’t crack if it gets hit with a board or something. The aluminum version would be plenty strong and if it was a little thinner my sausage fingers could push the buttons easier. The current version does its job almost too well.
I'm very happy with mine, and while the shipping is a little high, it was coming from Canada to TX and shipping is just high for everything. Well worth it to me!
