60 mph sustained straight line winds tonight. Our boat lift blew over with our 2008 211 on it. A side window was shattered and some gelcoat gouges above the rub rail from the lift. No other gelcoat damage or cracks that I could see.

There's some water in the engine compartment but I couldn't tell if it's just from rain or if it's coming in from below. The boat seems on the lift enough that I don't think the prop or rudder were damaged but I didn't swim under to see. I'm guessing likely just rain water?

The rear compartment panels (engine and starboard storage) are racked slightly. Is this likely normal hull deflection? Or potentially more serious?

New lift is coming tomorrow. He'll lift the boat off the damaged lift and we'll see if it floats (I expect it will).

My primary concern is safety. Wondering if I should haul it to Marine Max to have them look at it or put it in the lift. We've two families with kids coming on Saturday for a week of skiing and I'd hate for the boat to be stuck at Marine Max the whole time for not good reason but am a bit wary of taking risks as well.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

Ugh. That sucks--I'm sorry. Remind me again where you are.

Turtle in Shoreview. Our weather station on the dock showed 62 mph sustained winds.

OK, yeah. Watching the news now and seeing the damage out that way. Sorry I can't be any help.

That would be a tough call. My concern would be with insurance not covering something if you don't have it checked out now.

Good call on the insurance coverage. I think I'll haul it to Marine Max just to be sure.

Carnage in the water, man that's rough, not something you want to wake up to.
Depends on the insurance company, our's just requires documented pictures and estimates.
I would at least get it on a trailer for a thorough inspection, and then make your call at that point...

Marine Max says that they won't work on boats this old. They sent us to ProTech who sent us to Anchor Marine in Delano.

                Is anyone familiar w/ Anchor?

Also, the hull appears to be racked a bit. The covers for the engine compartment & storage are cockeyed and the windshield is cockeyed a bit. Is this common w/ hulls like this? Fixable?

I’m not seeing the engine compartment/storage cover issue. Being that part of the windshield glass was shattered, I’m not surprised that part of the frame might be cockeyed. Given the abuse my SV211 hull takes when going 30+ mph across Lake Minnetonka on a choppy day, I’d be shocked if yours sustained any real damage. I don’t know, maybe I’m downplaying it. But if it were me - if it floated, ran well, and the driveshaft/prop looked good - I’m definitely using the 7+ months of winter here in MN to fix any cosmetic damage.

Oh just awesome. No experience with Anchor, but in my limited experience with MM, I'm not a fan. Please keep us posted because I'm sure I will need a mechanic that works on these "ancient" boats at some point.

Hey SkiTundra, I know you mentioned in another thread that your boat was out of commission for most of the summer. How did your repairs end up going?

Not as well as I'd hoped. I was able to take a quick look at it yesterday and hope to look more closely later today. The glass work looks good and they repaired damage to the rub rail and gel above that. There're still some things below the rub rail that they didn't repair. A few that I know were caused by the storm and some that I know at least weren't there when I launched the boat so likely were the result of the storm.

There were also a few bits of glass still in the carpet. I expected, for what they charged for 'glass cleanup' that they would have taken the carpet out, gone through the boat really well to make sure they got all the glass, vacuumed & shampooed the carpets, etc.
