Near future G23 purchase. Opinions wanted

Posted this in a different sub but maybe this is a better place for it… sorry Mods I promise I’m not a bot

Hi guys, new to nautiques but not new to inboard boats, my family has owned a bunch of inboards in the past but I have been led to nautique due to my belief that they are the best surfing/ riding and overall fit for our family… looking for some help deciding between 2 boats I’m looking at:

    option 1
2014 g23 350 hours, upgraded full wet sounds stereo, Roswell board racks, nice black gator step flooring, full interior/exterior ceramic coat $90k colors are ehh as all 2013-14 were

2019 g23 325 hours (no upgrades) no thruster. $130k but we like the interior/exterior colors more

both prices include trailer.. obviously the lower price of the 2014 is intriguing but is the $40k difference worth it for the 5 year newer boat? Obviously the linc system is the biggest visual difference as well as the driver seat but is there any other major differences? Trying to make the best purchase possible so if I want to upgrade in a few years I won’t take a tremendous loss

    thanks in advance

The G23 hull changed in 2016, so the 2019 has the newer design that reduces surf spray when driving into the wind. That may or may not be important to you. The newer board racks, better LINC, and other features of the newer boat may be worth the extra money. Resale may be better on the newer one as well.

The driver's seat alone would push me towards the newer boat but $40K is well..... $40K. I also think most every aspect of the 2019 would make for a better purchase over the older boat IF the money is not a primary concern.

      My other thoughts on this.....

You're entering the worst time of year to buy a boat in a buyer's market. The boat shows are in full swing and people are starting to get pumped up for summer. While boats are not moving anywhere near like they did just a year ago and even worse than 2 years ago, demand and prices will be high until about mid June, or at least that's how it works here in Michigan. There are always deals to be had during this period as people looking to upgrade and dealers looking to move used trade-ins will make deals but in general, this is a time of higher prices.

Our first round of boat shows ended this past weekend. Myself nor any of my boating friends attended this year, which is a first for my group of boating friends. I heard attendance was not great and noticed adds immediately after the show announcing extended boat show pricing and additional discounting. I see no reason to rush into buying a boat for this spring based on the above as I believe the inventory and selection will only get better.

      Timing is everything.....

More people than ever in the last 3 years are looking to unload their boats as the thrill of boating and it's associated costs wear thin on those new boaters from the Covid era. Dealers have more new/used inventory than they've had in 5 years and the factory is offering rebates. Depending on if this is an emotional purchase that you feel the need to make immediately or one you can wait to make strategically, timing would favor a June/July purchase. The money you save and the inventory to choose from will get much better after the boats shows end in another month as people look to move their boats for the purchase of the new one and dealers look to move the trade ins to make the deals on the new boats as well. The best boat purchases I've made were either in the late fall / winter or after July Fourth. All this said, the timing is going to be up to you.

Best of luck with your boat purchase journey!

thanks! Money isn’t the primary concern, I’ve been thinking the same thing just wanted to make sure I wasn’t just looking at the shinier boat and wanting it irrationally.

We’ve been looking since early December and just have had a few slip right through our fingers due to us dragging our feet. I’m thinking I could negotiate the 2019 down a little and if so I’ll make a move. We’ve been wanting a boat since Covid (thank god we didn’t rush that purchase) and since then have seen the prices come down and are now in a good spot to buy. Both of the boats are through private sellers and have been posted for a while.

Hoping to finally have one this summer so we don’t have to be at the mercy of our boat friends and kids.

were on lake Norman so our season is pretty long. We tend to be on the water into November in wet or dry suits if needed.

Ah yes I totally forgot about the hull redesign! Leaning towards the 2019 forsure.

I can't believe you can score a '19 for $130k, pricing has come way down. We are going into our 3rd Season (I hope soon) with our '16, and I paid a skohsh more than that. Love our boat, would like to upgrade, but can't justify the loss at this point. Boating is our family passion, guess you can't put a price tag on that. I think you will be glad you begged, borrowed, or stole the $40 for the '19, and then there is the resale value to consider down the road. You can always add a thruster.
            Keep us posted, good luck...

You will get most of the 40K back when you go to sell or trade the boat. You should also have a bit of warranty left on the 2019. It’s a no brainer!

Buy the 2019 and don’t look back. The updated Linc alone is worth the extra 40k.
