    De-Winterization Question

Hello. I just purchased a 2006 SAN220. I had it delivered from up north where it has beed winterized. I woud like to take the boat out this weekend and am just curious as to the exact de-winterization process. I know the basic stuff but just want to make sure i do not miss anything and do evereything correctly.

    Thank you

    RE: De-Winterization Question

Probably depends what was done when they winterized it. If it was up north they probably used antifreeze, which means the hoses and plugs weren't disconnected. Here's my checklist. Some of it may not be applicable depending on your boat and how it was winterized. Also, the stuff at the bottom isn't really winterization, but rather routine maintenance I perform each spring. Enjoy your new boat.

[] Remove Tape from exhaust flaps.

[] Check exhaust pipes and bilge for rodents or other nesting animals. Clean as necessary.

[] Install new impeller and gasket. Coat it with dish soap or other water based lubricant before hand so it doesn’t get dry-started.

[] Reinstall fully charged battery. Always attach positive terminal, then the negative terminal.

    [] Reconnect all hoses.

[] Reinstall engine block plugs and exhaust manifold drain plugs (and knock sensor if applicable; do not use thread sealant, follow torque specs in manual). I use teflon tape on the threads. Makes it easier to get them out later.

[] On certain fuel pumps, cycle the key on for 5 seconds, and then off (don’t crank the engine). Do this 3 times and allow 10 seconds between cycles in the off position. This allows the fuel pump to prime the fuel lines.

[] Connect your boat to a water source and start the engine. If it doesn’t turn over right away, allow a two-minute cool down for every 30 seconds of cranking. Let it warm up to operating temperature. Keep a close watch on the gauges and listen for any abnormal noises.

    Other things
[] Change spark plugs and fuel filter.

[] Oil and reoil your teak platform.

I know. I rode behind it this summer while i was up there. He is friends with my cousin Matt Caroluzzi who also lives on Candlewood.
