Replacing Gas Shock In Glove Box - Not Breaking Anything

The time has come to replace my gas shock in my glove box vs using my head to hold the box open while I search for something inside the glove box. Question, I have ordered a replacement SS shock but how do you Best remove the existing shock without breaking the plastic ball joints in the removal and/or install?

I replaced mine and it popped out without breaking. I had to force it pretty good before it came off. Putting new one on was easier than coming off

IIR, there is a little spring clip you can relieve with a small flat blade screwdriver...do this and it will help release the tension.

SilentSeven assuming the little release spring is located in each of the plastic end joints?

It's really easy. If you look closely at the ends of the gas spring, there is a metal band that snaps around each end. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to slide it out. It doesn't come all the way off. It'll slide out 1/4" or so. Once this is away on each end, the gas spring will come right off without force.

Badfoot No not available locally. I ordered from Nautique Parts and used the Planet Nautique discount code (PND) to receive a 10% discount. I ordered the stainless-steel version because I have a Coastal Edition G, if your G is not a Coastal Edition, you can order the plastic version to save you a few bucks.

Thanks. Mine is not Coastal Edition but I think I'll go with SS version anyway. Looks to be more substantial.
