Test rode a 06' 220 this weekend, wake questions?

I test drove a 2006 220 this weekend Limited edition with out a bow ballast tank. (The dealer didn't have a TE 220 in stock) I liked the lay out and how it drove, but I was not very impressed with the wake. Will adding that bow ballast have a drastic affect on the wake of the 220? I also rode behind a VLX with similar set up, no bow tank and the pop off the stock wake was much better. I am looking for imput on how the 220 wake changes with weight and what combos people are using to dial it in.
    Thanks..

    RE: Test rode a 06

In our 07 220 we run front ballast tanks (team edition) and an added 125 kgs of lead under the side rear seats, we were running the lead in the bow but found the wake steepened up once it was moved back.

We have just come out of owning 210's for the past 5 years and like a steeper wake.

the wake we have now is as big and rampy just lacking the steepness and deep through of the 210,

the main problem we have found with the boat is the weight needs to be even, more than a 210 or it just crumbles and a faster riding speed is needed.

To answer your question..... Yes, bow weight will improve the wake, noticeably. The 220 is a bow weighted boat. When adding additional ballast to a 220 you start in the front and work your way back towards the middle. The yellow 220 that pulled Wakeboard Nationals had 60/40 split of weight (60 being in the nose. The farthest back additional weight was placed under the rear seats, like pjdave said. To much in the rear causes the wake to wash and the boat begins to porpose. I know your question was directed at stock ballast, but you can learn how weight affects a boat with additional weight.

      Hope this helps.

      pjdave,

Have you tried a little extra in the nose along with your current 125kgs? If so what did you think?

pjdave - So do you prefer the 220 wake without the trough, or still the 210 wake?

md, no we havent tried aditional weight in the nose whilst having weight in the rear ( but have had a boat load of people, when the weight was up front)

radmaster, im still undecided on the boat, the interor space and handleing of the boat is a step over the old 210, the wake is also awesome it has the size and is well rounded (reminds me of an 06 on vlx, but no need for fat sacks)
The problems we do have with the boat are, it is really weight (side to side) sensative alot more than a 210 (old) the others being trival like needing a large vehicle to tow, and a bigger storage area.

IMO rampy, more malibu-ish wake in the 220 but an awesome surf wake. Can't beat a 210 for handling and ripping around a lake but the 220 is serious luxo comfort. Also, better get the zr6 w/ the 220 cuz she's a fat pig. lol

I have the 330 in my 220 but with 6-7 people in the boat all around the 100 kg pulls them out no probs
