2005 Air Nautique SV 211 Team value?

    Greetings,

Looking at 2005 Air Nautique SV 211 Team listed locally and trying to get an idea on what it’s worth. I’ve looked up the bluebook guide on it but as we all know that’s just a guide.

It’s on consignment at a local marine shop so I don’t have any contact with the current owner. It looks as though it’s been sitting outside uncovered as long as that person has owned it.

The back pads are faded and cracked and will need recovering.
Almost all of the gauges are fogged out from the sun.
Steering wheel and other dash controls are faded.
The entire exterior is oxidized and will need to be restored.

Most of the issues seem to be cosmetic but I haven’t been out to test the functionality of everything yet. Engine and compartment does look clean though. Don’t know the hours as they didn’t bother to list them and are dragging their feet responding to me.

Assuming everything functions properly, any idea what this boat is really worth? It’s listed for $22k but seems high for being almost 20yrs old with no cover and the interior hasn’t been cared for.

A boat like this one is good for a full resto if that is what you wanted to take on. The vinyl (kinda cheap), carpet, horrid rubber decking, electronic systems in a low hours boat may need to be replaced in any case. The ballast system can be complicated. The tower is ugly too, so replace that.

Uncovered storage is bad for water intrusion into the foam-filled areas, degradation of the floor, wiring harness.

A lot of work required depending on desired final result. I'd work backwards from an average price of say 35K ish then it would likely end up at around 10K. eg.

    Interior $5000
    EVA deck $1000
    Hull /polish 2000
    Engine 2000
    Gauges/elec 2000
    Trailer fix 2000
    Tower $5000
    Ballast 2000
    Cover/tops 3000
    35K-
    $24000
    --------------------
    $11000

Thanks for the reply. Apologies for the late response and no pictures. I'm knew to the forum and was having trouble getting the pictures to upload. They're up now to give a better idea of what I'm dealing with.

I'm hoping it's not in full resto territory. Hoping to go out tomorrow and really go through the boat and drive it. We're not near salt water but I'm wondering if this looks like salt water damage under the swim platform supports.

I had the same corrosion build-up on my supports, wondering the same. But it wasn't a salt water boat and sat in boathouse, in fresh over the Canadian summer.

The hull construction is robust, the gelcoat of this era is not very UV resistant. The later decade, the gel is color-fast but more gooey imo.

Hull - at least a week of heavy duty wet-sand then polishing.
For my standard, which is not OCD, but has to look good, this boat is a full restoration - and should be valued as such. If the overall condition is "fair" the mechanical usually isn't that good either. eg impellor, fuel system, plugs, ignition, trans oil, etc
Ultimately, price is what the seller, if not delusional about the condition, is willing to take for it.

The platform brackets look similar to mine, which has been in MN/
WI its whole life, so it's not a salt thing.
It looks a little rough. What can you live with? Some like perfect boats, others don't care as long as it runs and floats. I'm in between somewhere. FWIW, a full set of upholstery skins runs about $6200--just got a quote for mine today.
I will say that I love my 211. There are a few upgrades between '05 and '07, but it's a really solid boat. Some people hate the asymmetry of the walk thru, but it's so functional! I can't really help with a price.

Thanks for all the info. After looking at it more closely today and testing out everything it definitely is a project boat. I'm ok with that as long as the engine/trans are good and it floats, ha. They gotta come down on the price though or someone else can buy it. On the positive, the owner has already moved out of town so they want it sold. We'll see how bad tomorrow after the shop calls him with my offer.

give you an idea I paid 17500 for my 07' 211 in similar shape. 250hrs . I put about 5k into it . surf pipe , new guages, trailer brakes and hubs, etc. i lived with the interior. Love it . and no payments on a 30k boat....

All great comments here and perspective. I'm in the full restoration camp on this one. I personally don't see anything on this one that the slightly above average DIY boater couldn't handle if you're willing to learn a few skills you may be a bit short on. Areas I would be concerned with and check closely would be.....

                Document the following.....
                • Hours - Is this a 400 or 1500 hour boat. The lower the better for me.
                • Drivetrain - I'd go deep on this one with a full engine inspection, At a minimum, a compression check (leak down check would be preferred), close inspection of fluids, belts and inspection of any signs the engine has been apart (look for marks on bolt heads, miss matched gaskets, chipped paint, etc.). Look for signs of a cracked block and manifolds. Ask for maintenance records. A water test would be a must on this boat. Listen for rattling, vibrations, clunking and grinding in the trans/vDrive. Check the prop, strut brace and prop shaft for damage.
                • Steering/Controls - check for smooth operation under power. On a boat like this I would expect a bad steering cable.
                • Hull - Look for any repairs that may have been done. Check for stress cracks and chips. Check fittings and valves for operation.
                • Accessories - Check every switch and feature for operation.
                • Interior - Document all the seats/cushions, carpeting and other materials will need repair/replacement.
                • Cover - Are there any covers that go with the boat? Probably not and if not you're going to be about $1200 - $1800 in for a decent one depending type and options.

                On the trailer....
                • Brakes - is there fluid in the master cylinder? if so what's it look like. My guess on this one will be that there isn't any and if there is it will be mostly rusted water. If either of these conditions are found there's a good chance you'll 1 - 4 calipers and soft lines which aren't cheap. If there is fluid, hook the boat up to your or his truck and verify operation of the brakes.
                • Tires - Get the date code off the tires. My bet is that these are toast. Tires aren't cheap anymore and you have 4 to replace.
                • Hubs - Look for leaking seals or signs of damage.
                • Electrical - Do all the lights work? Does the reverse solenoid work?

I may not agree completely with malibud on where the money would need to be spent but I do agree with his $10K budget to restore. I'm also with him on price which for me would be $16K - $18K based on the current condition, soft market and time of year. If you have a place to work on the boat over the winter this would be a great way to pass the winter.

Based on all the above now would be a good time to see what a pristine condition example would cost then subtract $5K off it as you'd probably be able to negotiate close to that off the price this time of year. I think you'll be surprised and will understand why we're in the teens for this boat.
