G23 Wake Compared to Axis A22 Wake

Does anyone have experience wakeboarding behind a newer 2022+ G23 with supplemental ballast and a well weighted (3,600 lbs + wedge) Axis A22? How do the wakeboard wakes compare?

Can't wait to see how this transpires... Comparing a dry 6300 lb boat to a dry 4900 lbs
I feel that everyone is making great surf boats today, and it's a very competitive market place. You get enough weight in the right places, and you are pushing a good surf wave. My Daughter & Crew scored a new A22 this year, and their wave is ok, but still working on weighting, they'll get there.
For wakeboarding in itself, that's a tough argument. The wake on the G23, I feel this is where this boat really stands out, for wakeboarding it is a tough act to beat. I've pulled some really good riders that walked away impressed, and a Buddy that's an ex-pro, by far his favorite boat to wakeboard behind.
When it comes to quality there will be no comparison to Nautique.
At the end of the day, what is your price point? You will find joy and memories behind whatever you are being pulled behind. Too many get caught up in name brands with their noses in the air at the boat ramp (not to mention the high end Master Craft Club), and we are all in this game together, to have fun, and enjoy the ride.

The A22 will have a better lip but less transition. For me the A24 gives an even better wake than the A22.

The A22 wake is slightly narrower and you can slightly slower and still get a clean wake.

      Both are great wakes.

I'm an Axis owner who wakeboards 95% of the time. I find the G to have a similar kick in the end to the Axis wake, but bigger. My preference for wake in the Nautique line is actually the S23 as I found it very easy to get a good amount of vertical kick while riding hard. Sometimes full advanced G, and certainly my time on the Paragon in advanced, was enough to boot me higher or more than I was accustomed. Would be a good thing once I was able to acclimate, but riding the S23 was just natural.
For example, a G21 kick feels very vertical to me. I enjoy it, but occasionally was unable to do what I planned as I'd get off axis in the air. The S23 just hits right every time.
As a result, in my mind, a well weighted axis is similar to a S23 to me. There is just a little more there on the G and then even more on the P. For reference, I now own a T235.

In terms of other aspects of the boat, obviously the Nautique is more expensive for a reason. But, the biggest thing I liked about the Nautique that you don't get in the Axis, or a Bu in my opinion, is the experience as the driver. Both boats have low bow rise due to their respective launch modes, but the Nautique stays down sufficiently to give the best view in the industry for the driver IMO. Introducing the power wedge, which is needed to get the best wake, on the Axis/Bu raises the bow and would put shorter drivers in a position where a seat bolster would be helpful.

For either boat, I think if wakeboarding is your focus you are on the right path. In the past year I've demoed centurions, MC (star and XT23), SA450, various Malibus, and a few Axis. S23, T235, A24, G23, M220, 25LSV, 22LSV all were great wakeboard wakes to me. I believe the 23LSV is better now after the most recent refresh, but I have not ridden the boat.

I'd also note that my assumption is the OP is considering moving up from an A22 to a current gen G23. Axis no longer makes the A22. At the budget point for a new/newer G23 I would suggest a demo of a G23, S23, Axis T235 and the new Malibu M230. The Malibu M220 wake is fantastic. I personally prefer it to the G23 wake. If the M230 is only better, then it may be a solid option for the OP.
Either way, enjoy the process and keep getting people out wakeboarding!

I currently own an A22. I'm not in the market for a new boat, but my buddy was looking at a 2024 G23. So I was curious to know how the wakeboard wakes differ between them in terms of size, transition, steepness, lip, width, etc.

              Great summary and suggestions Ola!

I own a 2020 (second gen) G23 but wake board 90% of the time behind 2022 A24. I can get a better lip and boost over a wider range of line length and at more moderate speeds (21.4-21.6) on the A24.

But my G slammed is a great wake shape. I just hate haiving to ride another 0.5mph faster to clean it up. My old body has a tough time at higher speeds . The third generation G23 does have a better shape at lower speed/ballast.

The new M230 is a good looking boat!
