looking at an 02 SAN, any advice?

My friend is going to look at on 02 Team tomorrow. Can any of you guys suggest specific things to look for in regards to this boat or year? He already has quite a bit of time in my 95 SS and our other friends 01 SAN. Boat has 500 hours. Any advice on things to look for or questions to ask the owner would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.
Ummm, I\'ll take the REAL 210 please. Thanks.

Just the gauges to see if they need replacement. Would not be suprised if they do need replacement.

Other than that, just a general inspection to see what kind of condition it is in. 500 hours seems good for that year. I think mine has 200, but I did not use it much at all last year. With 500, it was used enough to keep it in good condition, but not so much it was worn out.

The usual really, servicing etc. Look under the engine and swipe your fingers under the V-Drive checking for leaks. My V drive leaks a little, but works fine.

Agree about the gauges. The digital gauges will fail if they have not already, if they are analog you are set in that regard.

The ballast system gauges can be messy or innacurate, don't worry about that, just fill it until it spits out of the vent. We took out our tanks anyway and replaced with bags and individual switches.

02 is a great year IMO, probably only second to the 03, IMO. With the new 210 out, it's an instant classic. Good luck and enjoy.

I would third what has already been said. As a 2001 SAN owner, I can say that the things that bug me about the boat are incredibly minor. The latches for the rear hatches stink - and the guages stink even more. So 500 hours may be just the hours that the current tach has tallied. Not trying to freak you out about that - just saying. I would ask about the guages and the correlation that may have to the "reported vs actual" hours. Tachometers go on these boats a lot. It keeps the hours curiously low, sometimes. At 500 - it doesn't seem like this may apply here.

Also ask about the depth finder. Ask if the V-Drive chatters. Ask why they are selling it. Ask if it ever took an overheat. Then if he buys it I would have him get it tuned up regardless. Or if you are mechanically inclined, change the fluids, plugs, wires, inspect the belts (we lost one this summer on our 2001). So - these tend to be still too new for anything glaring and there are very few common "known issues" on SAN's so it is kind of a safe prospect in a lot of ways.

            my 02 SAN

Great Boat. I bought mine two years ago. I changed out the digital gauges for faria analog. gives the boat a muscle car look on the dash.

I also added perfect pass. If you're looking at the TE it will probably have that. I have a GT40 which I love. great engine. I wanted the Excalibur but I'm glad the boat I bought has the Ford engine. It is so solid.

I would check the push-button hatch release on the back compartments. They are only available on SAN's for a few years and are a nice feature if they work OK.

The 02 SAN is going to be a classic and is considered one of the more desirable for resale now since the 2007 is changed the whole model design. It is a pure bread wakeboard boat. It will do for slalom skiing but you will need to get used to a bit of a bump in the wake.

Overall, it's the handling and the get-up-and-go. The 02 SAN is a worldclass performance boat. You can't go wrong.

but I have my bias. photo attached with my son.

              RE: my 02 SAN

sperbet posted for me. I bought the boat and now am an official planetnautique member. Always wanted a SAN and now have one! Stoked. If anyone has any input on running lead to supplement the ski locker tank or proper ways to patch white vinyl interior (it had a few minor nicks, tears), that would be cool. Thanks.
