auto/electronic stern light??

I have a 2001 SAN with a factory installed pop up stern light mounted on the starboard side in front of the storage compartment. I ASSUME this was an option?? Is anyone familiar with this? It has been disabled and a seperate fixed position light socket mounted behind it (perko I think).
It would seem as if it worked like the auto antenna on a vehicle...

I know it was an option in 2003. Yes, it does go up and down like a power antenna. It is one of those cool things that isn't necessary, but sure is cool to show off. If you press the button a certain way, it even flashes morse code for SOS.

Maybe the one on your boat got bent and wouldn't work properly. They're quite a bit more expensive to replace than the regular light that it sounds like your boat has now.

Thanks Jeff. I have never seen one and was wondering if it was worth trying to get it working. Seems like it would be very short..

If your light seems short, it is probably missing some of the sections. My light is almost as tall as the tower.

I have one on my boat, and it recently went out. The dealer has ordered a new one, which will be replaced under warranty, but it is on back order. It was ordered around 10/06.

Neat to have until it does not work. If it goes out again, it wll be replaced with a non-power version.

My suggestion is to remove it from the boat before working on it. If you do get it to fully extend, then if it won't go down, it is next to impossible to remove it with out destroying it. (Ask me how I know)
