    Perfect Pass Smart Timer

Can anyone tell me where the Perfect Pass control unit would be on a 2007 206? I am trying to find it so that I can plug in the smart timer unit. I suspect that it is behind the dash and if it is, I have no idea how to access it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    RE: Perfect Pass Smart Timer

On my 1990 196, it is behind the dash pod. On mine, you just un-screw the thumb screws on the pod, carefully pull the pod toward the steeringwheel, and you should find it. ....but, now that I say that, isn't the newer PP run w/o a master-module??

So is it actually located behind the dash and you can access it from under the passenger seat?

RE: Re: RE: Perfect Pass Smart Timer

If the boat is a "Limited", there is no seperate PerfectPass ECM. All there is to it is the PerfectPass program chip that is installed in the Faria Gateway box (this is the box that runs the serial gauges, it has a plactic case and is white). You will need the pigtail that plugs into the Faria box to connect the timer. Thiis is the same way the rope switch is connected. Since the boat is also drive by wire, there is no servomotor and seperate throttle cable. The systems is truly only a chip, indash display, and paddlewheel. On the '07 196 Limiteds, the Faria box is behind the drivers footrest board. You can see the top of the box sticking up behind the carpeted footrest. I am just guessing that the 206 would be in the same location, If the boat is a "Signiture" there will be a seperate box for the PerfectPass, since there is no serial gauge system to use due to the use of analog instruments on that model.

It is a TEAM 206. If I look at the kickplate down by the drivers feet, there are the fuses, a speaker and two heater outlets. Is the "white box" behind that? It looks like the kickplate is attached with several screws. Do I need to take the kickplate off to access it?

I will paste in below a letter describing how to add a second judges display to a 196. You would use a similiar procedure on a "196" not sure of the location on a 206. I was just at my dealer yesterday picking up my'07 and would have snapped a pic of a 206 for you if I had seen this thread. The team will be the same as the Limited, you are looking for the whit Faria box. Here are the instructions for a judges display, but remember it would be a different connector for the smarttimer. I'll run outside and snap a pic of my 196 to at least give you an idea of what you are looking for and post in a few minutes.
                Dave

                -----------------------------------
Perfect Pass judge displays cannot be connected without an adapter, commonly called ‘splitter cable’, that allows the display to share the signal going to the dashboard display. Adapters are different for Limited vs. Signature Edition Ski Nautiques, and are not interchangeable. The judge display itself may be plugged into either a Limited or Signature adapter.

2007 Ski Nautique 196 Limited Edition

The splitter cable must be plugged into the ‘Display’ port of the Faria gateway box. On most 196 Limited Edition Ski Nautiques the gateway box is located above/behind the driver’s footrest.

Suggested steps for connecting the splitter cable:

                • If you can depress the connector lock tabs and pull the Deutsch connector out of the Display port without removing the footrest you will save time, but on most Limited Edition boats the Deutsch connectors are blocked by the footrest.
                • To remove the footrest begin removing the 4 mounting screws with a hand screwdriver before using a power driver. This will prevent stripping the heads of the screws which are tightly embedded in the floorboard behind the footrest.
                • You may need to remove the ‘Signal Input’ connector immediately right of the Display connector in order to grip the Display connector.
                • Channel-lock pliers with thin jaws make it easier to grip and depress the Deutsch connector lock tabs and pull the connector from the gateway box. After depressing the lock tabs, gently rock the Deutsch connector while pulling downward.
                • There are small ‘keys’ molded into the Deutsch connectors and ‘keyways’ molded into the ports. Align the keys/keyways and plug the ‘Display’ connector into the Perfect Pass splitter cable. Again check the keys/keyways before plugging the splitter cable into the gateway box. Don’t forget to replace the ‘Signal Input’ connector.
                • When re-installing the footrest you may want to push an icepick, stiff wire, etc, through the footrest holes to align with the original floorboard screw holes.

2007 Ski Nautique 196 Signature Edition

On Signature Edition Ski Nautiques the splitter cable plugs into the Perfect Pass DBW (drive by wire) master module. On most 196 Signature Edition Ski Nautiques the DBW module is located on the carpeted bulkhead between the driver and passenger seats. The above steps 3 through 5 apply.

I stand corrected, the Faria box is BLACK with a silver sticker showing the description of the connectors. You can see the top of it just above and behind the carpeted kick panel in the attached picture. When I looked under there a few minutes ago I found a nice surprise. Someone connected my adapter cable and routed the wires for both smarttimers and rope switch to the end of the steering rack (see second pic). Great surprise to start out a new boat!

I found that box. Next question....what outlet do I plug into now? I see the silver sticker and it is the same at what is in the photo, but I don't know where to plug the timer. I have two of them.

Ignore the previous question, I figured it out. Now the problem is that the timers have connector on them that looks like it will plug into the wire in your picture labeled "timer". I don't have that, and it does not look like there is an input on the "display" port on the faria box. This sucks!!!

Yes, you need the adapter cable. The cable plugs into the Faria box and your smart timers plug into the cable. check the sticker to see what they name the Duetsch connector. I don't think it is the "display" connector, but it will say on the sticker. The connectors you see in the picture are the timer end of the adapter cable (the other end plugs into the faria box and the smart timers and jump / slalom swithch plugs into the plugs you can see in the pic.

Thanks for your help. I got the pigtail today. It is supposed to come on all Limited and Team boats. The pigtail plugs into the Faria box in the very left hand hole. I think that it is called "Digipro".
