    Prop vs Wake

I know there have been many threads on props etc, but I am looking at a 95' 196 CB and wondering what would be the best prop set up as far as cleaning the wake up a bit (softer). I know the tsc 1 hull would be a better choice but this seems like a pretty good deal. Looking for some experienced opinions with this hull as far as course skiing. Will a prop make any difference in wake size, softness?

    Re: Prop vs Wake

We've tried these props on that hull:

    Federal 3-blade (stock)
    OJ Legend 4-blade
    Acme 422 4-blade
    Acme 470 3-blade

We saw a minor wake change going to the OJ from the Federal (for the better). There was little (if any) difference in wake shape between the OJ and Acmes from what I remember. As far as performance goes, the 470 is the best of the bunch.

I'll be testing all the applicable Acme's and OJ's this spring. In addition to performance measurements, Ill snap some pics of the wakes.

I put the 422 Acme on my '95 and it seemed to smooth out the wake. Also made the boat a lot smoother, also reduced the cavitation when turning to the left.

        RE: Re: Prop vs Wake

My oj has a softer pull then my acme. I was told a larger prop spinning slower, (even 100-200rpms) has that effect. If your lake has a lot of debris, then stay away from the machined props, they tend to get damaged easier then the cast. Just a few things to consider.

Since I've got a different boat, this may not help all that much, but just in case it might, here's a link to a write up I did after a prop comparison between the 13x12 Acme and 13x12 3 OJ XMP (both 3 blades). As far as wake goes, the acme knocked the rooster tail down a bit more, but the wake overall was slightly more turbulant. I've got side by side comparison pictures from 24--36 mph. The OJ has a softer pull, but not nearly as much tug out of the hole.

JC, the prop will make a difference in the wake on that hull. Between the stock federal and the 4-blade OJ I noticed a pretty big difference in rooster tail size and hardness at 15 off. Overall that hull is way ahead of it's time and will be great for you in the course.

My 95 CBSN came with a 3 blade OJ, I am currently running the ACME 422. Both work well with a slight nod to the ACME for hole shot. I am shopping for another prop this year. Waiting to see Tims prop test results first.
