    I was so lonely!

    Newbie here.

I have spent the better part of two weeks sifting through, what felt like every thread and post, soaking up all your experience and knowledge on Correct Crafts. I would sincerely like to thank you all for the invaluable information that has been collected and distributed on this great website and forum.

Ja, I felt all alone until I came across PN. See, I am from South Africa and here there is just no help. Yes, there is the dealer here that will sell the boat (±20 p/year), and service it for me, but what if…or what about that ……what’s that…. Eg. What’s the best Marine wax to use?

After a 9 year gap from boating (partied hard, then got married, then had kids) we finally found ourselves financially secure enough to buy back into the FUN!
So we started off with Old School Style, 91 BF Nautique, 7.4lt 454 Chevy, rear mount, + V drive, 400hrs (AWSOME+ Huge Wake). Paid Cash! Good nick, except the seats, original US Trailer. (imports are on dolly’s then slapped on a local trailer which are inferior). One of 6/7 imported into the country, so a rare gem here.

One of the reasons for “old school” is because new boats here, are frikkin’ expensive. Import duties on luxury items are +100% then distributors markup is like 80%, throw that in with the exchange rate and a new Nautiques will set you back about a million rand. Equivalent to $125 000. (Rape 'n Pillage) What really gets my goat up is that you pick ‘em up for about $40 000. Never the less, the second hand market is the true reflection of price, so I paid what you would. It eventually becomes relative after 4-5 years.

Thanks, due to all your advice, I have launched into a total restore of the boat. Starting with re-upholstery I am adding the “Arena Seating” configuration, a re-buff ‘cause the paint work was still good. Found out the best methods for restoring the back board, Decals (hey those cost the earth here) I can’t begin to explain how much useful information I came across, right down to that anti-siphon valve problem I had. Best battery arrangements for amps, ballast tanks, I mean the list is just endless.

I will Post pics in a week or so when the boat is finished!

Not so lonely anymore! Thanks a Stack!

If you can't do it in, on, or behind a Nautique..... It just ain't worth doing!
