NEW OWNER OF A 1991 SKI NAUTIQUE, LOOKING FOR INFO

    HI,

My name is Tucker and my family has just purchased a 1991 Ski Nautique, our dream boat for years and years. I am writing this post because as a new owner I want to hear about advice or suggestions as to keep my boat in great shape and if there are any pointers anyone could give me.

Im sure that you guys know a lot more about this boat than I do so im asking for your general knowledge and help for any problems that we may run across that you have encountered that can help us figure out how to fix or to find out what is going on with our boat. Also anything to avoid such as gas types or driving styles, anything that you think could be helpful. Also I love to wakeboard/skate/surf so are there any bags you would reccomend or others that you know are no good?

I hate to be so vague but any information or helpful hints that you could give me to enjoy my 'new' Nautique to the fullest would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

feel free to e-mail me as well @: scubblicious@yahoo.com

    Tucker

    Great looking boat.

Do some clicking here here on different discussions and/or enter topics in the search area and you'll find lots of good info. Ask specific questions if you can't find what you are looking for. Correctcraftfan also has lots of useful info on boats like yours.

Tucker, congrats on the new boat. Adirondack is a top notch dealership.

As you come up with more specific questions, this site and CorrectCraftFan are great resources.

Welcome. The only advice I would have is to carry a small toolkit with some electrical tape some epoxy putty and a spare impeller. DON'T try to change the impeller in the water unless your intake has a shutoff. Run your blower for 5-10 minutes before you start up or even better lift the engine cover and take a look around the bilge before you start it. If there is a heavy gas odor don't start it. Look for the source. Oh yea and occasionally try to wipe that "I love this boat" smile off your face. That is the hardest thing to do

wipe it down and air it out

I always wipe down the boat right after I take it out of the water when it is still wet. This makes it easier to get the grim off. Then once we are back home I like to open up the compartments to let everything dry.

Congats on your purchase, welcome to the club.
            Refrain from power turns.
Check your battery before you drive to the lake.
            Remember the plug.
Be prepared to launch before you get to the ramp.
You will need more beer than you probably thought you would.

Remebering the plug is the best advice! I forgot once! 303 is a great protector for the interior. I wipe down the boat as soon as I get it out of the water also, this works really well, quick & easy cleanup!
The big thing -- enjoy and have fun!
              Congrats!

Keep some plugs or corks for all your through hull fittings in the glove box in case you bust a hose on the water.

Hide an ignition key in the boat somewhere in case you forget your set at home. My buddy used to forget at least twice a summer after a 45min one way drive. Nothing more frustrating than standing at the lake, staring at glass and trying to hot wire your Nautique (it actually is not that hard to do on that year). Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

Grease your bearing buddies, check your trailer brakes and lights regularly.

Speedo pitots like to clog. If they become a pain often, replace them with the newer style from SkiDim.com

Oil that teak deck a couple times a season or more if you have the time. Clean, brighten and re-oil at least at the end of each season.

As others have mentioned, wipe down the boat after use and let it dry out as much as possible. You have a plywood floor under that carpet so it is best to let the carpet dry out as much as possible after use.

I had that exact same boat for six years. You can expect many years of happiness behind her. If you hit any problems, drop me a line. There is a good bet I have been there, done that with your boat.

Driving: IIRC, she will turn easier in one direction than the other (something to do with prop rotation). Figure out which way and instinctively go that way when looping back for the downed skier.

Skiing: If you are running the slalom course or always ski with only 3-4 people. Remove the back seat for more space and less weight. It comes out as one whole unit. We never had anyone sitting back anyways since the rope was always in the way.

                  Enjoy.

Good advice (to augment the other already posted): Use some Maguire's Quick Wax or a comparable when you pull the boat out and apply when wet. It helps keep the shine on and the grime and hard water spots off.

Better advice: Find girls that like to go out in the boat.

Best advice: Find college girls that like to go out in the boat.

882001 It's called hydrostatic pressure. If you open the impeller housing, the 2000 lb boat pressing down on the water pushes it up the hose. A 1" hose flows about 60 gals per minute your boat holds about 600 gals. You can do the math.
