How do I remove OLD HARD WATER spots!?!

I see alot of posts on how to remove water spots right after you take the boat out of the water. I have tried them all to no avail. Does anyone have a technique to remove old water spots?

Hard water spots like that are actually etched into the gelcoat, you have to level the rest of the gelcoat to get rid of the low spots (waterspots).

I'd start with a clay bar and then move on to a light polish if that didn't work.
    How about \"Chales\"?

At the end of the season I wipe my hull down with a dilute solution of muriatic acid (available at any hardware store). It takes the water spots right off and doesn't harm the finish of the boat at all. Be careful near metal though the acid will react with it.

50/50 vinegar and water at the end of every day while I wipe down on the trailer.

I'm with skiinxs. The water here is very hard, so I keep a bucket of vinegar/water solution in the truck and wipe it down everytime I pull the boat out. It works later, too, but I find it's easier to just do it right then. Any mild acid (vinegar, muriatic, etc.) should reomve the spots - just don't go too strong.

I vote for the vinegar/water mix as well.

I'm with the others...vinegar / water works great if you use it when drying off the boat. That said, I haven't found it to be very effective for spots that have built up over time. Lime-a-way works great to cut the built up hard water spots.

i was just going to post about this, I had them all over my deck, but i just buffed the entire boat & 90% of them came out, but my Windshield still looks like ****, should i just put some vinegar/water mixture in a spray bottle & wipe em down? What ratio vinegar/water?

when i clean my windshield i just use straight vinegar, it won't hurt the glass, but i'm sure a water/vinegar mix will work fine.

I use a product called nautical ease. Only thing ive found that will actually remove long term waterspots.

I just finished getting those hard water spots off my boat. I used a new product called Z-PC from Zaino. Check out www.zaino.com. After using this product you'll need to wax or use some of the other Zaino products (which are far better than wax). Z-PC takes a little arm work depending on how bad your spots are, but the resulting shine is awesome.
