    White marks on rub rail

I have white scuff marks from the trailer guides on my rub rail. How does one go about taking these off?

RE: White marks on rub rail

Various things can take it off, just according to how hard you want to work. Acetone or finger nail polish remover works well, just becareful about getting it on anything else. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers also work (and are not caustic), but require a little more elbow grease.

Well i will give the magic erasers a try, they work pretty good for everything else, if not, alcohol or acetone will be the next step. Thanks for the input

I would go with Acetone first, that's what I had success with in the past. If that doesn't wrok try magic erasers, they do work wonders.

I have tried rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, abrasive pads, sos pads, mineral spirits. They all will work somewhat with a lot of elbows. I have noticed that the longer the white scuff stays on the bumper rails, the tougher it will come off. All of the above methods sometimes doesn't remove it completely and will change the white to a grayish black. But the best results that I have had is using a Super Fine 400 Grit Sand Paper or finer. Takes it right off. I sanded the rails of my Nautique in early March to remove scuffs that has been there since 1998. I have used the boat just about every week since and it is as black as black can be with no haze or grayish spots. I would suggest that you sand lightly just on the areas that has the white marks. I also placed some Protectant 303 on the rails. I invested in a set of Trailer Guide Pads last year. In the future, I would suggest getting Trailer Guide Pads. Since I invested in a set, I have never had marks.

The key here is to get the guide pads that do not have any graphics on them. It's usually the white substance from the graphics that cause the marks on the rubrail.

Yeah, i have the pads, but the say Nautiques on them, and that is the white stuff that is rubbing off, the graphics that is. May have to get ones without writing on them.

where the heck can I find some trailer pads that don't have SOMETHING written on them? Everyone knows it's a nautique, I'm tired of trying to remove the white marks off my rub rail every winter.

Try carb cleaner. Spray some on a rag and wipe the marks right off.
