weighing down a super air for wake surfing

    Hello everybody.
I basically have a super air with homemade ballast.
I have 650 lbs in the back, in tanks in the lockers and about 600 lbs in a big sack in the belly tank/ski locker.
We have been trying to get a decent wake for surfing, and the more weight I put, the worse the wake.
I would like to know how others weigh their boats for surfing at the end fo the day, when everybody is too tired to wakeboard any more.
The boat's wake is perfect for wakeboarding, we just want to get a decent one for surfing too. It used to be rather easy behind an old maristar, but I can't get it dialed in my SAN.

    Hi there,

In my 99 Super Sport, I put the following weights in for a perfect surfing wake...

    800lb in the bow
    400 lb sac behind driver
400 lb sac in the back on driver side
2-3 guys ( having them move around for weight balancing helps turns alot)

I do this on a private lake with minimal waves, so be careful out in the open waters as this is clearly overweight for the boat, but I am 200 lb and I surf it all day!

    Good LucK!

      Hello,
Thank you for your fast reply. What speed do you drive the boat at more or less?
I guess with this set up you can only surf the starboard wake, right?
I wonder if there is a way to have a good wake on both sides so you can switch sides while riding?
We were able to do this behind a maristar 210vrs

due to the prop rotation its pretty hard to surf BOTH sides of the wake. Also with 800 pounds in the bow becareful not to dunk your nose.

Just use stock ballast and 2 people on the starboard size. I'm 180lbs and could surf until running out of fuel on a small LF skimskate with just standard ballast and the driver. The wake can be seriously big with minimum weight, just move the people around a little. The weigth placement is key, not the amount. We run 9.3-9.7mph. Do a search on this website, there are pictures around. Or otherwise view my website for some 2005 pictures of wakesurfing.

            surf wake

When I surf my 06 SANTE I fill the side that the surfer is on in the rear tanks. Put 3 people about 150-200 pounds on that same side. 1 on the opposite side as the surfer and then as the driver I either sit in the driver seat or sit/stand in middle or passenger seat. I move around to shape the wake just right. I set the perfect pass for about 8.5 MPH and have a very good wake.

              RE: surf wake

I am pretty sure the maristar evolved from the tristar mastercrafts. I has a tristar and it was one of the best wakes to surf on because like you say you could surf both sides at the same time and do crossovers. It was a fun wake but you won't have any luck doing that with a 210. I can surf my supersport but it isn't as fun as the tristar was. Since I ride most of the time I am happy to give up the surfing aspect cause the wake on the 210's are great.

I have tried it with the stock ballast, and it washes a lot. BUt I guess I will have to keep trying.

                  RE: surf wake

Last summer I just kept adding weight to my 95 SS until the water was just above the rub rail when under way. (on the calm days, of course) It went something like: 200# lead in rear starboard corner, 450# sack on top of that, 500# sac behind driver seat, 700# sac in locker, 2 200# guys on the starboard side sitting on the sac and I always drove while sitting on the gunnel, leaning against the tower. We could surf at 10.5 and had a killer wave. This summer I'll try moving some of that weight to the bow for a still longer pocket. Sorry, no pics.

We spend a lot of time surfing behind my 05-210 and the wake you can create is great. I took the photo below last Sunday and we had the set up as listed below. Aaron's not very tall but you can see the size of the wake.

                    Rear Starboard full
Fly-Hi wedge sac on top of Starboard tank
                    Belly full
                    400lbs lead in the nose
                    PP set at 11
4-6 people on Starboard side (one hanging off the tower - helps heaps)

Port side wake creation is harder, but not impossible. Again weight placement is critical and I have found moving a little weight forward works.

                    Cheers

                    .

I am still figuring mine out, but here's a few shots. 2006 SAN, starboard tank full, belly tank about 1/3 full, three adults on the starboard side (2 on the seat, 1 on the sundeck) at approx 9mph. It still needs work but fun none the less. I'm the bald guy.

Thank you very much to everybody who gave me input. I will work on it this weekend again, when the lake gets too choppy to wakeboard any more. I will take a couple of fat sacs and move them around on the starboard side. I will leave my rear seat in the garage so I have more flexibility for space.

Just drove a 07 210 and heres what I got for a money wake.

                          Belly full
                          Starboard full
                          Port Empty
5 People incluidng myself on starboard side
                          Speed 9.3 Mph

If you want to ride the boat farther back add weight to the bow, starboard side. Good luck!
