Fly High Pro X Series Nautique Wedge Sacs - Adapters?

    Hi Everyone,

This is part of my 3 year procrastination issue of creating an auto ballast system. I am about to start yet another summer with a manual system but I am at least going to upgrade my bags and part of the pumping system.

I have a set of the Fly High Pro X Series Nautique Wedge Sacs on order, but I have a few questions if anyone has time.

Currently we have the filling part of the ballast procedure down pretty well. We use a submersible "flooded basement" style pump, plugged into an AC adapter to bring water from the lake, over the side and into the tanks. It is emptying that makes me want to yank my hair out, with a weak, 5 year old 1st generation ballast fill/empty pump. And it would appear that this Tsunami pump system works well during the draining procedure. I am mainly after that part of the puzzle.

I am wondering if anyone has these, or any of the sacs that use the Tsunami pumps. I know that the pumping portion of the process will be ok - but what I am wondering specifically is if the bags with this type of fitting work with a standard hose fill for "normal" ballast bags with threaded vinyl. Just want to make sure that we'll still be able to use our old way of filling the tanks - as nothing could be faster. We fill the boat in about 10 minutes - all three tanks - with the filling system I currently use.

    Thanks,
    Erik

    Erik,

What boat to you have? Does it have a built-in ballast sysytem? Now would be the perfect time and it couldn't be easier to plumb the bags into the factory ballast. The only parts you will need, are 2 pieces of hose, some clamps and a couple of corks!

I don't have factory ballast. I have a Skylon belly tank (600lbs) 200 lbs of rocks up front, and a set of Fat Buddies on each side of the engine (280lbs each). This year I'll be running more weight up front - 100lbs more to be exact, and about 300 extra lbs of water ballast with these larger capacity tanks.

I actually think I may have been under weighting my SAN all this time. OOPS.

I have the wedge sacks and know the connection is different but there are so many adapters for these bags that I am sure you can find one that will let you use your old fill system.
Here is a link with a bunch of different fittings for these bags. http://www.wakecord.com/fat_sac_connectors.htm

        I hope this helps.

            Erik,

Are you planning on using the wedge sacs by themselves in the rear lockers? Those sacs are intended to be used in conjunction with the factory "wedge" hard tanks. When used together the two wedges form a rectangle and completely fill the rear locker with ballast. If you don't have factory tanks, I would just use a pair of "v-drive" sacs to fill the rear lockers with. You can easily handle 1000-1200lbs of weight in the rear of a SAN, as long as you add weight to the front of the boat. Additionally, the larger v-drive sac will give you the base for building a good surf wake. I don't think the weight of just one "wedge" sac will get you there.

Just some advise... weight is addictive! You may not think you need all of that ballast now, but trust me, you'll will soon. Fill those lockers with the biggest sacs you can. You don't have to always keep them full, but you will be glad you have ability to.

Ok, good advice in here guys - thanks.

One thing I am concerned about with the traditional 400lb V-drive sacs is that I have the battery in its stock location back there, then the other side is my subwoofer location. And I am a ballast addict as much as the next person, but I am coming from a setup back there where I had 280lbs on each side, and gobs of room for vests, gear and even the wakeskate. With the old setup we were never wanting for more space.

But that said, you guys are making me consider the other options. The main alternative would be the V-Drive sacs, which give me an additional 60lbs.

I really think the Vdrive ones and the wedge tanks are almost equal in benefit for me, on my SAN which has no factory ballast. Just trying to figure out a compelling enough reason to reverse my decision. In terms of shape - I actually prefer the wedge tanks' shape despite the fact that their shape is made to accomodate/work in conjunction with the factory wedge tanks. Good things to consider though. Thanks for the information.

Pull the tanks and put in the 750 lb Fly High's. They will fill up to the vents and you should have about 550 in each side. Fill the belly, and put 400 in the bow.

                  ...

I don't have tanks to pull. Thanks for the help guys. I really want to retain some good storage back there - I think I know what I am going to do - until I can get around to my autoballast solution.

                  Thanks,
                  Erik

                    I bought these: http://www.wakeside.com/page/w/PROD/...drive_sac_W701
I also have a battery on each side that sits in front of the bags, so these will work if you have batteries in that spot.

buy the 750's, your batteries will be fine, I run them in my 2001 san, took out the flat tanks, have tons of storage space for vest, wakeskate etc. even when the bags are completely full. You can always buy the 1200 rule pumps and screw it into the drain holes, run the empties on the bags with a simple toggle switch or hook them up to your ballast switchs on the panel. You do have the supersport/san setup?

I will take some pic's of a current flyhigh setup.
