    Pylon for older (76) nautique

New member here! Have a classic 76 nautique. Owned by my family after one year of use as a eastern region tournament pull boat.

Kids now are more interested in wakeboarding. Boats big wake has final found a purpose! Would like to add a pylon. Factory pole is fat with a ring on top. Anyone know of an appropriate pylon for this boat. I would also consider a tower but for budget, ease of use and appearance sake I'd prefer a pylon.

    Thanks for any help!

Look for a Flite Pipe, only available used as they are no longer manufactured.
FP attaches to the pylon, not over it, so it will work with the old ring and finger style.
You would probably be best off with the 6' tall version, taller than that will rock that narrow hull to much.

Check out the classifieds here and at www.correctcraftfan.com, should be some out there.

    Good luck

most rings are easily removed, and u can always keep it and some roll pins on board if u wanna switch back and forth. i personally have never really cared much for the flight pipe....

I think the set "screws" in the ring and finger set up on the pole are actually pins that can be removed with a punch.
I'd recommend a tower though... just save your money. Ease of use really shouldn't be a factor. I'd think they would be easier to deal with than taking down and putting up a pole...

I had a 66 Barracuda with the same setup I punched the split pins out and then removed the ring. It may be corroded and you may need PB Blaster or WD 40 and a long pipe to remove it. Once you do though Fat poles or Skylons fit right over the top and have a ring at skier level. The only thing to remember is you want to board within a 60 degree arc as any more than that and you can really rock the boat like Quinner says.

I have to disagree that the Flight Pipe is not a good solution, if you remove your ring you need to put the pole up or re-insert the ring anytime you want to slalom, with a Flight Pipe ring remains intact, FP can stay up with a barefoot boom, don't believe that is the case with a slip over style and the FP is solid - no vibration at all. The only downside of the FP IMO is the first generation had slightly shorter mounting brackets at the pylon which did not move the Pipe far enough from the pylon to mount it at exactly 12:00 O'clock from the pylon (it was too close to finger to get a rope on), newer versions did not have this problem.

Whatever you decide, good luck and have fun!

I have to agree with Quinner on the Flite Pipe, assuming you can find one. I purchased one for my '79 Ski and it worked like a charm. I guess the kicker is they might be more difficult to find nowadays.
