I'm getting ready to start playing around with ballast in my Excel open bow and have a few questions. Ultimately I'd like to put in an automaic ballast system but first want to get the weights corect.
Obviously it has lots of room in the V-drive compartment for some sacs. The weight of 40 gallons of gas in the center of the boat plus the driver and a person in the observers seat is my center ballast. However, there is not much room under the playpen seating on the starboard side.
Here are my questions
1) I've been told the older V-Drive don't plane as quickly as the new ones. If that's true would having greater than 40% of the weight in the bow be of benefit?
2) The bottom of V-dive compartments has a "shelf" which runs fron to back . Does that create any problem when using the regular v-drive sacs (not a flat surface to place them on).
3) Has anyone with an open bow put a sac under the bow seats? How did you do it?
