Surfing a 211

I have added a little something for surfing. Here is my setup:

07 211
Stock belly and port side tanks full
Wake plate in SLALOM mode
PP at 9.8 MPH

and the kicker:

440# Launch Pad fat sac in the transom walkthrough. It's the 15x15x50" bag, and it fits perfect

start and stop from platform

I can start and stop Surfing from the swimstep with the boat at speed.

Tyler, i can also start and stop from the platform, but do it with the assistance of the rope. are you able to start without a rope. if so, what is the technique.

when we wake surf, we either run at 9.5 for wave push surfing or 12.7 for hot dogin with a rope. water depth is critical to be at 7. 5 or greater.

step off...
front foot on on the platform with all weight on it
back foot on board hanging in water no weight
slowly transfer the weight to the back foot until the board starts to come off the platform
as soon as it comes off the platform, remember come off plat form SLOWLY, move weight to front foot (the gas)
from there you are all set! good luck!

As Fast351 said - yes, definitely putthe plate in Slalom mode. Defies conventional wisdom, but it sure does make a better surf wake.

It's really important that you seal off the vent on the side you are weighting. Mike has rerouted the vent from the drivers side so that no water enters. Remember if you change sides you have to seal off that vent or you put what Mike about 300 gasllons into the bilge? LOL. Also in driving Mikes method of backing off the power and letting go of the wheel ensures the boat turns without swamping. It works great.

Question if you ski and wakeboard right foot forward you surf right foot forward. I have 07-211 and I just want to make sure, I reed a posted saying left foot forward normal foot right foot forward goofy foot. Also for the first time 4.6" board will be ok or bigger board will be easier I weight 200 I heard stock ballast on the 211 won’t be enough to make a good wake for small board but after reading all the comments im not sure now thanks

In my experience, people surf with the same foot forward as they wakeboard, skateboard, etc. It has to do with your dominant balance point. A good way to tell is to stand with your back to to someone and have them give you a push forward to see which foot you save yourself with. That is the dominant leg which goes forward.

For a 200 lb beginning surfer I recommend using the biggest wakesurf board available.

We surfed all summer behind a 211 using a 5'2" Liquid Force "trainer" board. We all found it very difficult to stay in the wave after letting go of the rope. I understand the dynamics of weight shifting and all that. My Q is are the shorter boards easier to keep in the wave?

the liquid force is a great beginners board... the shorter boards are much less forgiving imo..

I have tried several boards. I am 240 lbs. I started with a 5'6" Broadcast. If I could find a big enough wake I could kind of stay in the wake. Then I tried a 6' Shred Stixx. I did not need as big a wake and thing were easier. Then I picked up a 5'6" Red Tide. With it I can stay in almost any wake that is medium or bigger. My 110 lbs. son can ride the Red Tide behind anything.
